It actually took a solid 2 days to get them in, but I had a good 10 inches of hair to start with. She back combed them, and I've been really bad about the wax. I somehow lost it but it really need to get some more and start putting it in. They're getting awfully fuzzy, and I need the outside hairs to lock up better.

yeah my hair is like 9 inches right now
on that forum i posted everyone is against wax this is what someone posted

It hinders the dreading process. The dreads need to be able to move, the hairs have to naturally move about to lock to eatch other, knott up. Wax gumps them all together preventing this and just sticking the hair down giving the impression of dreads. In the long run the wax builds up and will go mouldy.

i heard like they get smelly or something because it like goops up but i dunno
wax seems nice because it makes them a little faster

Yea, I haven't used wax in about a month or so, and everything seems to be going fine. I guess time is the only thing that will make them lock up better. I can't wait though. Did you see the sig of one of those guys on there with the monster beard and dreads? So freakin cool.

I can't wait to just let mine grow. That's the coolest thing about them to me. They're never the same for very long, since they're always growing. I just love it. I'm so stoked for them to grow.

I didn't get dreds, I grew them, 8 years ago I stopped washing my hair (read no soap) now I have dreds. I scrub my scalp with super hot water and that is it. No wax no twisting and no visit to the hippie salon...

Seriously, my hair doesn't smell bad at all...

I have a number of friends that have gotten dreds by wax/twisitng and although it may be fast it usually doesn't work out in the end and more often than not within a year they got sick of them and chopped their hair, seriously if you put the time in and don't rush it natural dreds look the best imho.

    Dreds take patience...

Here is a shot of my dreds and I swag'n some future riders...

Buttboarding one of my dreds got wrapped around the wheel and I slid to a stop with my head on the wheel, I thought it sucked but everyone was laughing, so it was worth it, right?

Malakai, how often do you rinse your hair? And do you do the rubbing at the roots to make it dread up or do you just let it groove until it goes by itself? What kind of hair did you have before the dreads? Was it really curly?

I shower daily sometimes twice daily and always scrub my scalp with ever shower.

Nah no rubbing or messing with it sometimes I rip dreds apart if they are trying to grow together. I've found that the small dreds I rip off larger ones tend to help dreds spread. Like a lil' dred seed.

when I started growing my hair out it was about 3 inches, I kept growing/grooming it till I had a tight curl white boy fro it was prolly down to my nose when I decided to let it go. The dreds started at the back and just spread, I prolly spent 4 years looking like animal from the muppets before I actually had "dreds".

My hair grows in tight curls my hair quality is course and dry, I've always been nappy.

Yea if I was to use a soap I would use bronner, it's the only soap I use on my body and to shave. It's all natural and the oils are supposed to help keep your scalp clean but not accumulate on your hair. The essential oils used are suppose to help tighten dreds too.

It really comes down to hair quality, if you have the right type of hair growing dreds is easy. If your hair is silky and straight it'll be hard to happen and the results will be less than satisfying.

The only honest advice I can give is salt water, if you live near the ocean dip your hair as much as you can if you don't take salt water baths or make a misting solution with salt water in a spray bottle with sea salts, salt water makes dreds nap up and tighten quick. Swimming in the ocean and salt baths are prolly the only thing I have done for them, then again swimming in the ocean is great for any reason and salt baths are great for sore muscles.

Oh yea, and once you have dreds avoid chlorine, if you have to go in a hot tub or a pool rinse your hair over and over, squeeze them out and rinse again. I more or less avoid chlorine all together now and almost never actually get my dreds in it, not only will it make them frizz out like a chinchilla in a dryer but the mineral deposits inside your dreds can react with chlorine and turn your dreds a bright blue/green. I hit the jacuzzi once then put my hair in a towel and passed out hard before rinsing, I woke up and my wife was like "Why is your hair green". I was all like "CRAP".

If my hair grew longer than 3 inches and it wasnt so asian (straight and not nappy) I would totally get dreads. Damn asian hair! Kai has the best looking dreads Ive seen. Some of them can look real nasty.
