Blackle.com, an officially sanctioned offshoot from Google, is based on the idea that a darkened screen uses less energy than a lighter one. Sydney-based tech company Heap Media created the site after staffers came across a blog entry claiming that an unlit Google would save a considerable amount of electricity: up to 750 megawatt-hours each year, or, as one Green Party spokesperson explains for us proles, the energy it would take to boil 750,000 kettles for an hour. While I made the switch to an electric teapot years ago, the comparison is still a striking one. Surely so many kettles of water shouldn't boil needlessly....

I wish Google let you change the color of the backgorund...
I hate white on a monitor... It hurts my eyes as well as eating power...
It doesn't have the exact same search results as google, but that's OK..
I'm going to start using it and see.....

yea i noticed it doesn't have an image search which sucks but i'm surprised the results aren't the same... it's run by google..

If I google my website, I'm number 2 on google, on blackle, I'm number 5.
But it looks like it does pull all the same results, just not the exact order
as google, no big deal though...
Maybe if we all start using it, I bet before too long it will have some of the more
useful features of google...

The black background is so much easier on the eyes...

It's because it's based off the Australian Google. www.google.com.au
Search results are different regionally.

i don't know if I'd start using it regularly without all the features of google, but its an awesome idea.

get an image/video search on there and sign me the hell up!
