    Default Longboarding and humdrum jobs

For those of you who have jobs, namely the ones that leave you twiddling your thumbs for hours on end, how far do y'all take it? Of course I browse Silverfish, but I've got a lot of downtime, especially on Sunday mornings, so I'm about to have a bearing cleaning fest. I figure it beats getting caught sleeping. I want to skate, and I probably could get away with it, but there's always the chance that the boss will pop by.

Get a job that keeps you on your feet. Like a restaurant. You won't get bored if you constantly have something to do.

It's more fun to get paid to sit on your ass.

I just browse Silverfish or skate in the parking lot.

I used to have a slack job that I hated. I surfed silverfish all day when I was in the office. I always keep a board in the car. So sometimes while out on service calls, if I wondered up on something new worth skating I'd stop and skate it. One time I got sent to Nashville to work for an afternoon. This was right after they had built the Wave Country skate park. So I knocked out the work as fast as I could and spent the rest of the day skating the park. That was a good day. Mileage, onsite labor pay AND got to skate the park while all the kiddies were at school.

most of the time i keep really busy, but about two years ago there was nothing to do for about a week. so i made a longboard out of baltic birch, all on company time. everything from cutting, to routing, to sanding, to staining. it was prevailing wage job too so i was getting paid pretty well for it.

% of work time spent on the 'fish = 35-40
Amount of work done during this = not much
Results acheived when they need to be = every last one, mostly exceeded

Equals my office allowing me to skate the indoor space vacated when we moved to a different part of the building. It's even signed up as a 'social club skateboarding area'.

I like my job, even if it is boring, long hours, stressful. There are ups and downs with all sides of life. Luckily the downs on my job don't outweigh the ups (great pay, travelling a fair amount, people treating me like an authority in my field at 25).

Just need to persuade the caretaker to sweep the loading ramp (i'm not allowed, strangely), it'd make a superb mini slalom hill....

My job is I sit and watch a giant balloon for around 6 hours, now talk about tumb twirling boring. I think I even drew a quiet descriptive picture on a similar thread back in the day. I'v messed with skate stuff before while working, its aight. I usually just sit, get high, listen to music, and try to wake up when my boss comes by....gotta love it.

in the summer i work a shitty production labour job in a factory making string for tires... it sucks cause im set up to a computer system so i'm timed and have to have a certain completion percentage or else i have to have a little sit down with my boss and explain why things aint workin right... so im usually bustin my ass for the entire 12 hour shift... but i usually take longer breaks, but then again everyone does... i dont get the priveledge to surf the fish at work, i do it while im procrastinating from essays at uni

I didn't like my last summer job too much. I wore a suit to work and was cooped up in an office (mostly alone) either coding C, writing engineering specifications, or testing stuff on antiquated hardware. The fish kept me sane!

But during uni semester I work as a consultant at a small telecoms co. This means I get to dictate when, where and how much I work (most of my billable hours are racked up at home ). It's a pretty sweet deal. I've been working at this place for a few years now, so I know the boss well and they're very accommodating. This is used to my advantage -- work never gets in the way of skating.
