Re: Confession Thread
I have little to no respect for veterans. Most are coming from wars that weren't even worth fighting, and they act like they are above everyone else. The only wars I believe that we should have gotten into are: Revolution (obviously), 1812 (also obviously), Civil war (could have been avoided but I would have gladly fought for the North), and WW2 (we were trying to stay out of it, yet help the good guys at the same time. Once we were attacked we had to go. Because that was real terror and evil, not this middle east bull shit so many people are buying into. It's criminal that Bush dubbed those countries "The axis of evil", it's not anywhere close to what it was like during WW2....). Yet even veterans coming from a war worth fighting, the WW2 vets, still act more important than everyone else. Like every single one of them did something heroic that helped win the war. I don't think so.

Re: Confession Thread
i know people that have come back in the last 3 months, as in, were in THIS WAR, in the front lines of Iraq, the one we "shouldn't be fighting" (completely debatable). They don't come back self righteous and "overly heroic", they're humbled, disciplined, and usually with a smudge of PTSD.
Now, if you wanna just say "we shouldn't have fought 1/2 of the wars that we did, fine, i can get behind that. But to besmirch the names of our brothers, uncles, cousins and co-workers, just because they needed a job?
thats low.

It's just my opinion based on my experiences. The people I've met that came back acted like we need to be there and everyone should bow down to them.

I really don't want to get into an argument with you right now, especially because we normally get really mad at each other over stuff like this, but I'd disagree.
I'm pro-veterans, but not for the war. I read your second post, too, but I'm quoting this one anyway.
Anyway, I think that this war is very similar to Vietnam. There's really no objective for either war, and people are bashing on the vets and soldiers just because of some bad leadership. History repeats itself, no? Joining a service isn't a "maybe" thing, you're either in it completely or you aren't. People who join when they're on the fence I'm assuming are very few.
I know a kid that was accepted to Westpoint, and this is his first year there. He doesn't approve of what the country is doing in Iraq, but he feels like he owes something back. Noone that I know joined the service to "be better and rank themselves higher among society" (even though they probably could, takes some balls to risk your life for something you believe in), they did it because they felt like they needed to for the aegis that our country has provided thus far. These wars aren't on our soil, right? THAT'S something to be appreciative of.

EDIT: I just *love* how everyone gets so butthurt about my posts! (Not you scary) I find it hilarious. Keep 'em coming.
Anyways, what I was really trying to say in my first post is that I don't like how veterans, mainly 'nam and the ones in their 40's, 50's, and 60's are just like "I demand respect!", my U.S. history teacher is the only veteran I have ever met not like that. The rest I was just ranting because that's been chafing my balls for the past few weeks.

I was put in yet again another position nobody should ever have to be in.
I got horrible news today, but it has also been the best day in a few months.
I'm getting a grip again.
I hate English class in general, but I have literally THE smartest teacher in the world, and I enjoy going to his class; even though we have about 3 papers every 2 weeks.

clearly you have never been to a city where the homeless vets out number regular homeless 2:1. come to san diego.
Every month I serve a massive meal mainly of soup to these vets. Go work at a soup kitchen, you'll see vets from all walks of life and you'll see vets who demand nothing but a little soup... I don't demand respect from serving soup, usually i'll go sit with them and just talk about the stories they have and make them feel like they're humans.
another thing, maybe you should respect them... "respect your elders" I don't care if you have never met them, you should still respect them a little more than the average joe.
also, for them men and women coming home from iraq and Afghanistan respect them the most dude. I'm guessing you're probably 17-19 becuase of how naive you are.
did you know at 17 you can serve your country? I can't becuase of a medical problem (i'm 20, tried to enlist so i could protect your sorry ass at 17, 18 and 19 before i gave up), what did you do to help the war effort? all you did is bitch and complain about how we went to war to fight terrorists that killed 6000 US citizens on 9/11. All you did was bitch and complain about how vets demand a little respect...
STFU and smell the coffee, im a republican, and i think iraq was a mistake, but the afgan war is legit. and so was WW2, WW1, Vietnam(do some research, figure why we went in the first place), and any other conflict we've been in. they were legit, otherwise congress wouldn't have sent us in.
i hope you read this and realize how much of douche you are.

Ok.
1. I'm 14
2. I have a medical problem also that would prevent me from going into the military.
3. Maybe Afghan war is legit, and we may need to be there, but it will only fuel the fire.
4. WW1 was ****ing retarded. No one was trying to kill millions of people or dominate the world. It was just based on alliances. One country went in, a country that had an alliance with them then had to go in. And so the dominoes fell.
5. Vietnam started because we thought someone fired a torpedo at one of our boats. Have you ever listened to the recordings from it? Didn't think so.
6. We went to fight the commies because "Their way of life just isn't fair!". Who the **** cares???
7. I believe that you need to do some research.
8. People need to earn my respect. I'm sorry if they had no choice and had to go fight for the war, but that doesn't make me respect them. I won't respect people just because they're old, ok.
