Documentries let us see how 'the other side live'.
Whats the most powerful documentry you've ever seen?
This isn't about politics, this topic is about objectively looking at documentries which made you think "fuck me, that was cool" or "holly molly that was scary!".
I watched one last night about James Miller, the british journalist shot in Palestine. Fuck me it was scary watching and waiting, knowing he's about to get shot. The footage of millitants recruiting children was shocking and watching the kids mum beg him not to go near the front line was touching. Great TV.
i watched Dark Days last night for the 234987234982 millionth time...it's about bums who lived under a manhatten subway in the tunnels. shows there struggle to live, in shacks made underground. it's actually an interesting story, especially how it was produced. very good movie, i like how they'd run electricity into there shacks from the third rail. these guys had it made for bums.
saw this one about the hindenberg disaster, where they slowed down the famous footage & hyper-analyzed it. they would interview survivors, then highlite them in the footage. so if some guy said, "i jumped out the third window about 20 feet off the ground" they would find him & show him to you. very weird/cool/powerful.
That MJackson docu was fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked up!!!
He should just be locked up for being THAT much of a freak!! That show couldn't have possibly helped his case!
I saw a show about that airport they built on a man made island in Japan that's slowly sinking.
I like the ones about inventors and stuff on the History Channel, although they have waaaaay too many shows about Hitler. We get the idea, not a caring person, didn't send "thank you" cards, didn't play well with others...
They had a great docu on the Kennedy killing with all kinds of possible theories on who orchestrated it and who was in on it, fascinating stuff!
The Mob documentaries are always interesting.
I love documentaries. I watch the Discovery Channel all the time, and not just for American Chopper (Mikey RULES!), they have great stuff. I even watch docu's on the Food Channel where they show you about weird food festivals and stuff like how Twinkies are made.
wow, what a pathetic geek I am...............................

Haven't seen it, but the billboard advert I see every morning on my way to uni which says "real bikes, real fights and real man hugs" kind of put me off.
Isn't TV cool?
no.

Lexx, have you seen the docu War Photographer, by Christian Frei about the photographer James
Nachtwey? If not, really got to see this one!
Others, Years back there was this docu style movie made about the first female suicide bomber in Palestine, called Laila.
Very impresive movie about the reason why they perform the terrible acts like suicide bombing. Suddenly it is not that black and white as the media would like to see you believe it.
Currently there is a new docu in the Avid machine, about my favourite etch artist, Jan Montyn. Notorious artist, whom fought along side the Germans in the 2nd world war, later in korea and arm in arm with the US soldiers in Vietnam. First docu about him and his life. Yet to be released tho. Some other docu´s in the line of my own professional interest: inter religious terorrism, terorrist - freedom groups, religious activism, international illegal (nuclear) weapon trade etc.
Last one to mention, Storm From The East: it is about my ancestors
