I saw the soda/pop thread and wanted to clear this issue up as well. Theyre long, they have meat inside, wtf are they called?

Born in new york, moved to philly, HATE the word hoagie. its mostly sub or wedge where i'm from.

subs are subs.

hoagies are subs that have meatballs in them.

NO! That is where i stand strongest in my defense of wedges, if its three meatballs red sauce and cheese it is a meatball wedge, because you have to wedge the meatball in between the two halfs of the roll. I wikipediaed further and apparently hoagie is traditionally a very specific sandwich, but it gets thrown around for everything here.

if it's on a long bun, it's a sub...
meatball sub, turkey sub, "everything" sub, etc.

although, a grinder is sometimes used to refer to a toasted sub.

and a hoagie is on a VERY specific type of bun...it's about 6" long, and it's not cut in half like a 6" sub

but i call 'em subs...no matter what they are

Thank you for including Grinder as an option. I'm from Rhode Island and that's what they're called.
I also call them "subs" when normal folk look at me all confused like.
