Got into processing my own film some time ago and like to keep the natural 'canvas' from the film.

I recommend storing your negs under some heavy books for a few days before scanning, you`ll notice an increase in sharpness with flat negatives. Looks like you blew the highlights here though, develop shorter or be more gentle in Photoshop.

The only PS work on this was resizing and sharpening it.

Your negs may be fine, could be a matter of setting the white point in the scanner software, ultimately the scan can look a little flat and dull with no blown highlights and decent shadow detail, and then you bring out whatever you want in post.
I use a nice little action wich makes a mask for highlighs and another for shadows, very easy to use, kinda similar to dodging and burning in a real darkroom. I can email it too you if you want.
