I really like the idea of a photo series based on campus sex spots. However, if I didn't know what they were, they would be uninteresting to me. I like your other stuff much better, but I'm no professional.

They just look like black and white pictures of rooms to me.
this is where 'art' really comes into it.

But this is the problem with the 'art world'. If you don't get it, it means nothing.

I get it, it just doesn't spark my interest. It's not something I would pay for or recommend to others. Unless when you say "get it," you mean it touches me, in which case, no, I don't "get it." But that's nothing against Wells' artistic integrity, I enjoy many of his other photographs, and I'm not trying to say he's bad at it or anything.

Raw rules if you like spending more time in the photo lab messing with your pictures and working with akward file types with pictures that are way too large than spending time actually shooting. Jpeg basic ftw.
You obviously hasn`t any real experience working in RAW.

i think to understand Well's motive of the pictures before you can really understand the depth of the art in itself...i think..the way i saw it was just rooms, cool pics of rooms but just rooms, then when Wells said what the sequence of photos were about it gives you a whole different outlook on it which i thought changed the way the pictures were in general..cool pics man

Oh yeah I totally agree with you there. The story behind the pictures definitely makes them much deeper and more interesting. As standalone pictures, though, they don't do much for me. I'd rather look at a picture and have it impact me without somebody having to say "this is what this picture is meant to be about." But once again that's nothing against Wells, I like the guy, for as little as I know about him.

wells: thanks! i appreciate the thought that's gone into your photos. going off of previous comments, "art" doesn't have to be "understood" and just because picasso's rose work doesn't appeal to me as much as his cubic, that doesn't mean i'm gonna say "it just looks like a dumb acrobat to me." even though this is a boarding forum, this thread is the best thing to be on here in ages imo (and i don't want to join a photo forum!). if some want to have an endless philosophical discussion about the definition of art (which is counterintuitive to its nature anyway) make a different thread. lets keep sharing wok and discussing it proactively. i'm not a "fan" of wells' public spaces shots but i respect him as a knowledgeable artist with a lot to offer and i look forward to seeing more from him and everyone else.
