Do you know when to quit your job?
I just started a new Sales position in NYC 2 days ago and I've hated the job for 2 days now. I'm quitting tomorrow. I don't see myself building a long career with this company. Am I quitting too early? I just want your comments... I'm still quitting, the job blows, salary blows, good people, but good people aren't paying my bills.

Re: Do you know when to quit your job?
at first i thought you were jumping the gun a bit, but if the salary isn't enough to support you then leave. do you have opportunities for advancement?? perhaps you could get a raise before too long if you worked hard. and maybe you should secure another job before you quit just to be on the safe side, and who knows, maybe in the mean time something will happen at your current job that will make you want to stay.

Re: Do you know when to quit your job?
Absolutely dude, lock down another gig before you go jumping ship. It feels great to get that "free and easy" feeling when you first quit a shitty job...but then reality sets in, and being broke sucks. As far as I'm concerned, it's never too early to quit a job you don't like. That being said, I believe in giving things a chance. I personally would give the new job a couple weeks to pan out a little before getting out of there, but if it's making you miserable and not paying the bills anyways then #### it.
You're going to spend a big 'ol stupid chunk of your life working, and life is too short to waste all that time at a shitty job.

Re: Do you know when to quit your job?
If you've got a 'true' sales job, you create your own salary via commission. The base is just to keep you afloat long enough to get started. And generally, it takes a while to get your sales skills honed, up to speed on whatever it is you are selling, and enough opportunities in the pipe to begin to have some success.
Contrary to popular belief, not all sales people are slime. Sales when done well is a fulfilling and rewarding career. It is not at all unusual for top sales people to be making more than their bosses, going on trips around the country and world etc. Of course there are the prototypical sales weasles out there too, but I'm focusing on the good.
If the company you work for is quality, your product is hightly regarded, and the people you are working with (including your boss) good folk, then I think you may be calling it done too fast. If however you are working for a sleaze ball company or boss, get gone soon, but not before you've got something else lined up.
Skate 'em if you got 'em,

no new job should suck after 2 days.........well unless it's a sucking job. y'know like a tranny hooker.
that being said, I agree with lining up a new gig before splitting current gig

you know what. you should stick with it a little. learn a little bit of everything and you'll be better more well rounded. sales and marketing are a very important skill to try and learn so make the best of it and soak in what they teach you.

They weren't teaching me anything. They sent me out in the field to sell $15,000 document management/copy machines. With little to no training. The base pay was very low. Not everyone is willing to put down 15k on a new machine. Reps were averaging 1 sale per month. F-that. I quit.

that company sounds doomed. who sends untrained "salesmen" out to sell $15k equipment?? i sure as #### wouldn't buy something that expensive from someone who knows nothing about it. yikes man, get another job quick!!
