Got a Job at Zumiez!!!
Went in, joked around with the workers for like half an hour while I shopped, then I asked for an application, filled it out right there in the store while still joking around with the 1st and 2nd assistant managers and some other guy, and I totally impressed them, then i walked out and they called me back less than half an hour later, had an interview 2 days later, and now I am an official employee of zumiez inc.
seriously easiest real job I have ever gotten, and the greatest part of it is, almost everyone I know has applied there at some point, and nobody I know works at a zumiez anywhere, litterally everyone wants to work there, so im pretty happy...
just thought I would let you all know, and for those of you who dont know what zumiez is, its a growing business that sells skate gear and stoner clothes, and its covering the west side of the united states and slowly branching off to take over the world

Re: Got a Job at Zumiez!!!
This is going to go badly. Zumiez doesn't have a good rep around here.
Congrats on the job though. If you like it then that's awesome.

They have a bad rep because they seem to contribute to and support the "skater image". They seem to be like they're in it for the just the money and not the skating. I've never been there because we don't have them where I live so I can't say first hand. People just really don't like posers on this site and aren't afraid to express it. Zumiez seems to breed posers.
Seriously though... if you really wanted the job and you're happy about it then it's good. Please take time to know your product though. That's another thing that people hate... normal people won't notice because they don't know a lot but if you get a customer who knows what he's talking about, the employee should know what he's talking about as well. There's nothing worse than going to a store and have a guy try and convince you that some S9 pintail is better than an Evo for bombing.

Re: Got a Job at Zumiez!!!
yah, that's pretty much how i got my job at zumiez too. and i got my eye on inventing and then havin the position of longboard buyer for zumiez, if that happens i'll do my best to broaden and improve zumiez longboard stocks. though i may just start my own shop in CO SPRINGS so i can sell what i want, and since it wouldn't be a corporate company like zumiez, guys like rayne, kebbek, insect, landyachtz, and all the other legit companies might let me sell their oh so wonderful gear...

Re: Got a Job at Zumiez!!!
Congrats dude. The zumiez store by me there is this one lady that I have seen everytime i'm in there and she recognizes me. so a week or 2 ago I asked her if I could stand on one of the S9's she says "yes". So I carefully take one from the shelf and stand on it. Some other employee that worked there saw me standing on he said "hey, kid! get off the board unless you're going to buy it!" I was confused, it wasn't like I was rough housing in there. anyways, congrats!

Re: Got a Job at Zumiez!!!
Congrats man, honestly I would take that job in a heart beat. I applied but got no call back, it sucks cause everyone that works that has no idea about anything. It seems like they barely hire anyone that seems knowledgeable about brands/products. Its good to see someone involved in skateboarding will be working there.
If your not skating for fun, what are you skating for?

See, people say, They are in it for the money. No Sh!t Sherlock. Most people are in business for the money. That is why they start their business is for money. If it not for money, then it is just a hobby.

Yeah... Dont hate on a company because they know how to turn a profit.....
My local skateshop sells hoodies, hats, shoes, and stickers.... If you own a business, you gotta sell what people want, not what you want.. Success is about pleasing the customers. Luckily, my local skateshop is carrying longboarding equipment in full force.

I could think of worse.
P.S. I'm not going to start speculating about the consequences of a Zumiez-owned world economy until I see one in Heathrow or JFK. Duty free, of course.

Obviously but there is another part to that sentace "... and not for the skating." They're a business... they're in it to make money. I know that. You had to read the second part of that sentence to get my point.

Re: Got a Job at Zumiez!!!
congrats on the job! the only brick and mortar skate shops that make money are those that sell a lot of soft goods. Zumiez board selection sucks, but other than that its another tee shirt and shoe shop. but at least they have skate tools, bearings and risers, crap that I need to pick up last minute sometimes. its either that or drive to Renton!?

No I got it and had quoted it too. It is just the point that people get down on a company for trying to make a buck. Obviously someone, somewhere that originated that company probably did or still does care about skating. Rayne's and Kebbeks have all kinds of qc problems, but people here bitch more about S9. Yet, how many S9 threads do you see where people say my trucks dont fit, or the holes are drilled off etc etc. Yet, most people say S9 sucks cause they are trying to make a buck, and in the end probably make a higher quality board than the others mentioned. Hmmm??
