I'd have to say Stepehn King's "It" is the worst I've seen.I saw it once, and I was 4, and it still creeps me out.
And "The Ring" didn't help to make me feel safe home alone

yeah that applies to most of today's "horror" movies. they're more suspense flicks more than anything, using sound to build up the moment, which is just friggin' cheap. and who can forget crappy plots seemingly written by 10 yr olds.

Although not too scary, one of my favorite movies of all time is Halloween.
Hey this is my 2000th post, now I'm a double Kahuna.

Never had one really creep me out, I've always been a fan of horror flicks. I like the cheesy low budget ones too, there more like comedies.
The ring was a good one though, saw it in the theater with my girlfriend when it first came out, and she still has issues with walking into a dark room alone

while i agree w/ that most of today's horror movies are crap, i disagree that the use of sound and music to create mood (and the eventual shock) is somehow "cheap." alfred hitchcock, possibly the greatest suspense director of the sound era in film, used it masterfully.
visuals and dialogue are only two of a director's weapons. sound is another option: a third board in the director's quiver, if you will. although it is not a horror film, watch robert altman's M*A*S*H (the movie, NOT the TV show) for a clinic on how to use sound in movies: overlapping dialogue, background noise, it's some amazing 5hit.
sorry for the partial hijack. to get us back on track, i saw the movie "witchboard" with my mom when i was younger. crummy movie, but for some reason it scared the he11 outta both of us!
for the turnstyles...

None really scare me either. I did like house of 1000 corpses and wrong turn.
You can't hang a man, for killing a woman, who was trying to steal his board.

i think that the major problem with alot of horror movies is that they are just gross out horror, they just have like people cut up and stuff, one movie that was not a horror movie but gave me goose bumps at several points was Mothman Prophecies the first time i saw it was on my uncles big screen tv in the middle of the night
