Yeah... dont forget to fill up your tank when you'll come to the Chalet Freride... Gas is around 1.45$ per liter in Montreal (5.90$ per gallon or so...)

Re: petrol$$$ road trips
hehe you guys have no idea. 1,55 - 1,60€ is what we pay in germany. thats about 2,50$ for a liter of gas!!
thats 9,40$ for a gallon!
yeah, gas is expensive in germany, but dont worry, youll get there too america.
my soultion so far is not owning a car. i plan on using longboard/bike/public transportation for as long as possible. probably until i need to get a car to get to work or when i have kids.

Re: petrol$$$ road trips
america doesn't have trains or busses?
Just remember, if you go bombing hills you want a car.
And here in holland, even with our gasprices, car is still cheaper in 99 out of a 100 times.
I pay around 42€ for a returntucket to the hils here. And that's to the nearest town, ad 5€ busfare to it and a lot of walking vback or waiting for a bus that goes every half an hour if you are lucky.
In gas it'll cost me about the same. But you can split that with 5 people (that's how many you can get in my car)
public transport is expencive.
Germany is a bit cheaper, but stilkl, if you go rinding with more than 1 person. The car will prob be cheaper

Re: petrol$$$ road trips
its true. once you arent a student anymore, public transportation costs a lot. my tram station to bonns tram station (20 minutes) costs 3,30€. monthly tickets reduce the price. my girlfriend just got her monthly public transport ticket to get her to and from work. costs 120€ a month, thats 185$.
still, our public transport system is a lot better than in most of the US. i can get everywhere i need to go with bus or tram; tram station is 10 mins from my house.

Re: petrol$$$ road trips
public transportation here is amazing
i mean we might not have buses or subways or trains but we have taxis.
actually we dont have taxis, or any public transportation that is useful at all

Re: petrol$$$ road trips
France is great when it comes to trains...
Really cheap with all kind of deal depending on your age or job....etc
It basically costs you like 100 euros for a round trip from my place to the best spots in the alps and there is like a 1000km. You have to go through Paris though...

Re: petrol$$$ road trips
thing is, europe's had "high" gas prices for a damn long time. in america, gas has quadrupled in price in about 5 years. so, it's still QUITE a shock to us. and, like crappy said, america's public transit sucks, unless you're in a major city. even then, it's quite spotty. out east is pretty good, but out west is horrid. in hte middle (where i am), i can't access public transit unless i go a good 10 miles out of my way, which isn't worth it anymore.
yes, an uber-grippy, square-lipped slalom wheel IS the best for sliding

many people forget that size wise, the US is bigger than europe. They still see the US as just a country. Not half a continent
