Beating drug tests is relatively easy, especially if you have plenty of money.

You would not believe the depth in these tests. They're blood tests. They check for you getting someone else's blood, abnormal levels of EPO testosterone, drugs, steroids, etc. I think the only thing you can actually do that can't be detected is blood doping by having a pint of your own blood drawn and kept then putting that pint back into you at a later time. More blood = more oxygen. I miss the old days when cyclists were falling over dead during the tour due to amphetamines.

I've been a big cycling fan for years. I can't believe Beltran would even try using EPO with all of the new doping controls... For me a big bonus to this years Peyragudes Deluxe Cup was that fact that on Sunday after the race, the Tour de France was spending the first day in the Pyranees only 4km down the road from us! In fact after 9:00am we could no longer leave the resort because the tour was coming up on the same access road we used from Luchon. Chris McBride and I walked down to check it out as they climbed the Col du Peyresourde. Before the cyclists even come through there is about an hour long procession of cars and crazy vehicles giving out samples, spraying the crowd with water and showing off pretty girls. It totally builds the anticipation and excitement of the spectacle. By the time the riders actually do come through the whole crowd has been completely worked up. It was pretty amazing! Here are a few of the photos I took.

the dude beat near impossible odds with lung, brain and testicular cancer, he's raised unheard-of amounts to fund cancer research, he won the most treacherous cycling race in the world after coming back from being told he had 3 months to live from his cancer, seven times. the dude's a ####### hero IMO and until it's proven he was doping, he's going to stay a hero as far as im concerned.

Of course they were testing him like crazy. Imagine winning the TDF 7 consecutive times. No one else on the world would be doubted more than Lance. Of course he is a hero. But people love to sh*t on winners cause they can't do crap.

Winning the TDF is the greatest testament to a human being's mortality. Armstrong didn't dope.

Its easy to smear and hard to clean up false accusations. So I wouldn't blame him having so many lawyers.

I reckon they should just legalize all cheating methods.

Then the riders could wear the various pharmaceutical brands etc proudly on their jerseys...

A VERY famous news show parody in France...
No need to speak french to understand
for those who dont know, Richard virenque won the "best climber" title at the Tor de France more than once, and he is french... He was condemned for doping one day

I wonder if this is really going to hurt the sport? I had thought after the the past few Tours that this could not go on any longer or the sport would suffer. It almost seems to me the public does not care too much.

Would doping scandals as big as the ones in the Tour kill other sports? (Think Garnett testing positive before game 5 and the Celtics pulling out of the playoffs)

Or, are fans so cynical today that doping is accepted as a reality in all major sports and fans just stay to enjoy the overall specticle of sport?

It's easy to pick on the strange kid. When everyone hears cycling its "oh dopers". This is just the laziness and the provincial attitude people have these days. Do they not remember the olympic track girl who got all of her medals taken away? What about baseball and the hearing? Doping is everywhere and only when people realize it, will it go away. Other sports -football, baseball, soccer, rugby, track, everything on the olympics, swimming etc. should all be heavily scrutinized.

Blaming is the easy way out, but having an open mind to the 'popular' sports is needed now more than ever.
