Help with a first snowboard....
Hi, I snowboarded once last year but it was at the end of season and I fell in love. My friend is selling me a K2 fuse wide 159 with good binding for $170. I like it and would definitely buy it but it is a little smal as it only goes up to my chin. I am 6'. What size board should I be looking for and where do I start looking. I would like a board that is good for all around, because I will eventually start doing tricks. Any boards you guys recommend?

Re: Help with a first snowboard....
I think anything between 158 and 163 will be pretty good. What size shoe do you have? Do you need a wide board? That would be the only thing that might be a problem. Also how much do you weight, that factors in to it to.

Re: Help with a first snowboard....
I wear a size 11 shoe and I weigh 135lbs. Would I need a wide board? Does it sound like my friends board is too small for me, it goes up to my chin.

Re: Help with a first snowboard....
Holy #### dude, your 6 feet and 135 lbs? Um, well anything above 11 your gonna need a wide, or mid-wide board. If you think your feet are gonna grow the board your friend has should be good. For your weight you don't need the wide, but if your 16 your feet are still gonna be growing. I would pick up the board your friend has.
What bindings come with it?

I'm not sure the binding but he said they where $140 new, and they seem pretty good. I'm actually 5'11"1/2 but close enough to 6 to say 6. So you don't think the board he has will be too small, I would like to be able to use it for years to come, however I don't think I am getting any taller.

Re: Help with a first snowboard....
Boards have a lot more to do with weight than height. It doesnt know or care how tall you are. It does care how much you weigh. The more you weigh, the more you can flex the board. You are a tall, skinny guy so the board is definitely not too small for you.
The second part would be where and how you plan on riding the board. Since you are new, that isnt as much of a factor. If you are going to be spending all day in the pipe and park, shorter boards are more nimble and will rotate faster. If you plan on riding big mountain or some pow, then a longer board or a directional board (vs. twin tip) will be better suited.
You can ride that board for many years to come unless you break it, delam it, kill it on a big rock, etc...
btw - they are right about the width, you are right on the line for a wide or mid wide board. Wider boards are slower edge to edge, but you wont get toe or heel drag at low binding angles.

Thanks, that was very helpful.

Re: Help with a first snowboard....
Don't concern yourself if the deck reaches your chin. It depends on your weight and riding style. Do you know the exact waist measurement on that deck? I use up to 25.5cm waist with sz10 boots for park riding. I weigh 175lbs @ 5'10" and I ride up to 159cm for all mountain riding and as small as 154cm for park.

Re: Help with a first snowboard....
width isnt really a problem. i've never measured the width of a board (out of my last 4 boards) and i have size 11.5 feet. never once had toe/heel drag. if you are riding lots of hard pack/groomers/park then a 159 will do the trick nicely cause smaller boards work better for that type of riding. just work on the basics and learning to ride and if you like it enough/get good enough buy something later that better suits your tastes. im 5'8-5'9 and used to ride a 153 when i lived in the east (ontario) and now i ride a 159 for both park and powder days (whistler).

Re: Help with a first snowboard....
Sorry to thread jack, but instead of making my own I thought I would post here.
Should I buy a used Burton Dominant 08 model(board only) for $175.
What price should I ask for if its too high. I snowboard often, but i don't know #### about prices so any feedback would be nice.

Re: Help with a first snowboard....
how tall you are has less effect on the board you should choose than your weight in my opinion, think about it, your board can't tell how tall you are, just how much you weigh, and where your weight is placed, I'm just re-emphasizing this cuz Im bored and plenty of time to type.
I personally ride a Never Summer (go with what you know, right?) and love it, I've also heard that K2s are some of the best boards in their price range, so if you can get a good deal on one, take it!

What size is it, how tall are you, and how much do you weigh?
