I would never want to be called a skateboarder. I correct people who comment about my "skateboard".

I do not like the negative stereotypes associated with skateboarders (Original poster is a good example) so I try to distance myself as much as possible.

The two are extremely broad definitions. It is more specific to say that one skates a longboard, and then that is the same as saying one rides a longboard. I personally say I ride a longboard, because if it is all up to word choice, I prefer to not be associated with the negative stereotype that goes along with "skating"

My definition of a skateboarder. I am old school, you should do it all, banks, ditches, vert, DH, Slalom and street. A skateboarder should be able to make his board turn. Where I live the bulk of the skaters are street skaters. They have the street mentality, they do not want to ride anything else. They have visions of Limos picking them up, champagne bottles, endorsements. Thoses days are fading. All around skaters is what most companies are looking for. You're still considered a skateboarder. You're just playing with semantics. That's like driving a limo through a place with signs that say "no cars," you're still a skateboarder, you just ride a big skateboard.
