Anyone know of a good relatively inexpensive site that can provide the neccasary items to setup a slackline?

"not recommended".. Search anything goes for slacklining.
A proper setup will only run you $45 - 50
Search out slackline forums and you'll see why
the tie downs from home depot aren't recommended.
And you don't want rope, you want tubular
1" climbing webbing...

I google about why not to use them and I didn't find a whole bunch. I don't really see why. Is it because they arnt climb rated or whatever? Cause I think if they can support my car when I trailer it they can probably support me. I also realize the feel is not exactly the same but I was only using it as a balance developing tool not really trying to bounce around on it and stuff for this I think it would be fine but if you want to really get into it yea you should just buy a kit.

Makes sense tho use stuff for its intended purpose or be a cheap ass like me haha.

But, a slackline ends up with a sh&tload of tension..
I've heard about tragic situations from noobs
using home depot ratchets and home brew slackline
setups.. Imaging one fo those tie down ratchets
flying directly at your head with about 1800 lbs
of force behind it....You would be seriously mangled...
A proper slackline setup doesn't cost that much and learning how to
set it up is very easy..
I highly recommend doing it right to begin with.
Being a cheap ass with a slackline setup could end up being one of
the worst ideas you pursue...

they arent recommended because one the typical rated weight of them is way off from one tiedown to another, and when bouncing on a decently taught line you can actually exceed the max load pretty easily on most tiedowns.




For the simplist slack line setup with a 3-1 tensioning system, all you would need is

40-50feet of 1" climbing webbing (typically like 60-99 cents a meter) at any decent outdoor store

2 oval ring carbiners (D ring works as well) about 6-8 bucks a piece, 3 is ideal for ease of setup on one end

and one ring off some 4000lb chain (has to have a center gap of at least 1 inch, or same as your webbing) just for lockign the rope but again this isnt needed either


and then just some more 1" webbing for going around trees (10 feet either side should work well (rope is a bit better for undoing once its been used, but is a bit harder on the trees if you dont put up a backer pad like a bit of carpet)

and then just a matter of learnign some specific knots and knowing how to set it up.




i threw mine back up in the yard about a week and a bit ago, but have to use a ground anchor on one side (metal pipe with chain running threw it buried about 3-4 feet into the ground) and then i just use soem simple a frames to hold the line off the ground

We should bring the old slackline thread up from the deep. Samhell knows what he's saying, set it up like that and you can't go wrong. I just bought some new webbing and set up a new line, loads of fun. I can actually do little lemur leaps now!

you can buy setups from slacklineexpress.com for a decent price. ive been using the same setup for about a year now and love it. Im starting to get 360's on the line and working on 540's. wish i could work up the guts to try a backflip

iv had a tie down line snap on me and the rachet i was using to tighten it came flying into my ankle. ####### eh i couldnt walk for a week!! its definitely worth your time and money to set-up a legit one, take my word for it.

Just because Adam suggested it, doesn't mean you have to do it... It won't make you a better skater... It will just make you able to balance on a slackline easier than you do now... If you want to be good, spend more time skating than on a piece of rope.
