Good luck with your trip. Last time I backpacked thru Europe was 99/00 and I covered N. Africa, Spain, Portugal, Fr(ah)nce, England, and Scotland. All in one month! Most of the time we stayed at hostels but there were times where we made friends with locals and they let us stay at their place. I don't know if you have some kind of unlimited budget but if you do, plan ahead and make reservations! Pack lightly, don't dress like a fool or anywhere like a dumb tourist: that just says "ROB ME". RESEARCH!!!! Rick Steves was my best friend in the days before I left. All I used for equipment was the Eagle Creek Switchback and I wasn't a longboarder back then.

Have fun and don't forget your f-n passport.

    Switzerland (Bern/Interlachen) is amazing.
That's the only experience in Europe I have so I would totally recommend spending a few days there. The roads are well maintained, the weather and scenery are beautiful, and so are the people. It's an amazing place. Try and stay on a mountain though. Zurich is mostly flat.

Not sure if you're a cannabis user or not but there's a farm in Bern. A sight to behold; even if you're not into that sort of thing.

    Good luck.

-Bring about half of what you think you need.
-Getting lost can be an adventure, but knowing where your hostel is before you get to the city is worth a lot.
-The further I got from tourist centers the more fun I had.
-Know "please" and "thank you" in the local language. Your effort is appreciated.
-Never once did I specify what size or kind of beer I wanted. What came was at least a pint and always good.
