Nah, Just good proximity to chinese markets. $8.00 a pound for salmon and 7 for tuna, with decent portions of eel, white tuna, and yellowtail costing only $8-12. Fresh too. A homemade sushi dinner costs about $15.00-20.00 in supplies and ingredients for 3-4 people

We're totally hijacking this thread with the sushi. Sushi thread? Sashimi thread? Just thinking of wasabi makes me hungry.
Well I'm in Seattle about 10 minutes from the marina where all those fishing boats you see on Deadliest Catch call home port. You can buy right off the boats from the crew themselves nd they'll even show you exactly where they caught your seafood on a map. Needless to say, the quality is top-notch.
I really should learn how to make rolls.

out here in NJ its a little more shifty. The only things you find in major supermarkets are either frozen or kept on ice UNTIL frozen, so in order to get fresh unfrozen fish you need to go to the chinese guys who do everything under the table. Freshest fish at the cheapest price though. I've never gotten sick or had any problems. That would be cool to see the home ports of crab boats though.
go to barnes and noble. They sometimes have cheap $15 sushi sets that come with an instruction manual and bamboo rollers. You need a rice cooker too, but only one big enough to cook about 2 cups of rice.
For the rice, always use high-quality sushi rice. Nishiki and Botan are good brands.

I'll go down to the docks and take some pics of the fleet for ya. I usually buy from Sig Hansen's 'Northwestern' because it's huge and really easy to get to from the pier.
I have a rice cooker, but I never use it since I figured out how to do rice on the stove in a regular pan. (My ex was Korean. Ask me about my Kimchee addiction sometime).
Barnes and Noble for beginner set. Check. I want one.

Although the movie started out in Amsterdam, the main setting of the movie (ie: the hostel) was somewhere in Slovakia.
