yes, fairfield is only a short trip for me (in hawthorn)

i've just about finished my first board (it started raining before i could drill truck holes), for it i used a $10 piece of 3mm ply (1800x900) from my local timber supplier as i'm not prepared to spend the $100 on a sheet of 1.5mm rock maple (2400x1200) from plyco when i have no experience.

the board with the cheap ply looks to have turned out surprisingly well, but ihavent ridden it yet.

Try boat builders too. They usually have good stocks of decent ply and, from my own experience, are generally pretty helpful.

Are you saying you got a 1800-900 sheet of 3mm ply for ten dollars???

yes, it was garbage quality and the boards i made with it did not last very long (as you would expect for a board made with $5 worth of timber), but i did get some practice at working my press.

i don't know if it should be considered cheap or not but i made 2 boards for $10 (well, i probably spent more than that on the glue that went into the 2 boards)
