checkout bestboards.co.nz and drop nacho an email. he is really helpful, has a wide range of boards that he is always updating and will be able to help point you in the right direction.

if your at auckland uni make sure you take your board to those late night study sessions as there is some good hills to skate in the area.

any one know where i can check if a road is a public road or not? I guessing the council but any other suggestions would be great.

just had a stupid security guy say i wasn't allowed to skate on a road I'm sure is a public road because the owners of the buildings around it don't like it. i politely said they don't own the road and cant say who is allowed on it and not, then moved on. Funny thing is that the other security guard doesn't care, has a good chat and watches me skate.

for those on the shore the road was orbit drive, not the best run around but good for sliding.

Hi unless the road is on private property you can skate on it,
it dos`nt matter what the people think .. its a public space,
he was being an ass and dosnt know the law, to which you can get a copy of at your local council regarding said roads, basically its the same as a bike and Im sure you could bike there.
Keep it with you when you go there.
The only thing you can get busted for ...and only the police can do it. Is being in control of a hazardous verhical, or not wearing a helmet or not having a light, as you are on a public raod, the skateboard is classed as a verhical.and don`t go skateing drunk either or its DUI.; no ####.
other than that go skate there and be friendly about it if aprouched, remember surcrity gaurds are just hired thugs, imo.

its pretty flat down there aye... and any hills ive found arent the nice smooth asphalt we like.

there are however a couple of fun spots. try the havelock bowl... old as #### but fun, just gota kick the kids on bikes out, always seems to be bikes there when im down that ways.

Head to taradale.. best spot down there. old school styles. fun park. enjoy

Nice man. I did some reading up on Chch's bylaws and here's some stuff to add to it.

Christchurch City Traffic And Parking Bylaw 1991

"SKATEBOARD" means a board fitted with wheels used to support a person and
propelled by that person using muscular energy or with the assistance of a declining
gradient and which has no mechanical means of braking.

"VEHICLE" means a contrivance equipped with wheels, tracks or revolving runners
upon which it moves or is moved; but does not include:- ... (j) Any skateboard

37. SKATEBOARDS PROHIBITED
No skateboards shall be permitted to enter upon any attended off-street parking area
unless the written consent of the Council has first been obtained.

Christchurch City Public Places And Signs Bylaw 2003

3. PLAYING AT GAMES
(1) Subject to clause 3(2), no person shall play at any game or ride in or upon any
... skateboard,... in any road or public place, in such a manner or at such a time as may cause damage to property owned by the Council or may cause annoyance, danger or
inconvenience to residents or members of the public in the vicinity.
(2) The Council may from time to time by resolution publicly notified in a
newspaper circulating in the City prohibit the use of skateboards or roller
blades in any public place or any part of a public place or any road or any part
of a road.
(3) The Council shall mark any such prohibited public place or road by erecting
such signs, markings or notices as the Council sees fit.
(4) No person shall use a skateboard or roller blade in any public place or road
prohibited by the Council pursuant to sub-clause (2) of this clause.

So.. to cut through the legalease, according to the Chch city council, a skateboard isn't a vehicleyou can skate where you like so long as there isn't a sign put there by the council saying otherwise and so long as it isn't a public carpark. You can probably still skate in mall carparks etc (again, so long as there isn't a sign saying you can't).

As Kookyfish said, be friendly and polite if you get approached. Cops can only arrest you if they have a reason to suspect the law is being broken (and if you aren't polite, they can say you were giving them a reason to suspect and so on). A similar thing applies to security guards (read 'hired thugs').

Do a google search for your local city bylaws and what they say about skating.

Not Tauranga specifically but, was driving there from Gizzy last week, an kicked myself so hard for leavin my board at home ay. The main road linkin Ohope beach to Whakatane looked sick, an there was plenty more besides in the area, even on SH1 there was a few decent bombs

My son has been in contact with Adam for a couple of months now and arranged for the team to stay at our house over night. Can't speak highly enough of them. It was great having them here. My son and one of his mates skated with them from Hamilton out beyond Cambridge and they just fit in like part of the team. Josh has been buzzing ever since.

Hi everyone. i finally reopened my account. I would like to thank all of you for putting out a good word for bestboards. much appreciated.

it seems things are picking up since the skate new zealand team landed. im jealous of the boys at bombardier. it must have been a pleasure to host some skate icons. good on you.

as for the thread, its great that people are meeting up this way. has anyone met riders through this forum? i would love to build a crew in tauranga since most of my buddies just moved overseas. now im stuck skating alone which is actually nice sometimes but can get a bit lonely at night with no one watching your back. for all you guys in the north shore, i wish i had met you all before i moved out. albany area is full of hills. if im ever up there, let hook up one evening. another spot worth checking out at night is panapa rd in remuera. long and sweet. you wont stop smiling. you might see a mate of mine that lives in the area, he usually skates at night around 10. his name is ted and is an old timer and is super cool.

shout out to will from sugar boards and tim from lostboy if your here. would also like to congratulate bombardier for their awesome lineup. great work guys and keep it up.

ill start a new forum about outlaw races and jams with prices to be won. i will need help organizing them so please do if you can. cheers

We might have to make a point of coming over to see you and introducing ourselves properly. There's a new subdivision on the left as you leave Tauranga for Hamilton and some of the streets on the hillside look pretty good.

I think thats a great idea. i look forward to it.

that subdivision your talking about is awesome (the lakes). You will come across a tough security lady that will give you a good mouthful though. i think the only time we'll ever get to skate it in peace is when all those properties are sold and the developer and their guards move out. its a bummer but who knows, maybe we can get a permit from the council to close the roads for a competition (slalom, short downhill races, freestyle). or maybe there is a better venue in hamilton.

keep in touch.
