longboard gear in NZ ?!?
Does anybody know any good ways to get trucks and wheels here in NZ? we have a limited(F**N expensive and often usless) selection in cheapskates and some surf shops, mostly sector9 which im bored of now. I want quality and performance now, would it be best to do an online order? specially with the weak USdollar at the mo...?
any help? Thanks

Have you had a look on bestboards.co.nz, they have got some good stuff.
Its good with our dollar being so strong but the thing is that shipping is massively expensive, so it still cost a lot to get stuff here.

www.solidskate.com
Jack and Wen have shipped numerous times to me in New Zealand - great people, great range of products, good stock holding, quick delivery, fantastic service - I can't recommend them highly enough, and have done to others who have also experienced the same. Try them, you won't be disappointed.

Re: longboard gear in NZ ?!?
Check out the longboardstore.com. Their shipping rates to NZ are pretty good, it only $12 US to get a set of wheels sent out.
What are you looking to buy anyway, im looking at getting a set of harder wheels for my new board while the exchange rate is so good.

Re: longboard gear in NZ ?!?
Shipping via USPS from the west coast of the States takes less than a week - my last two orders from Solid Skate were placed/paid for on Thursdays, and each was delivered to my door in Ch.Ch. the following Tuesday.

Re: longboard gear in NZ ?!?
doh, the dollar is now only 76 us cents. what an idiot. i should i have transfered some money earlier!
ummm, my suggestion would be www.thelongboardstore.com or search on eBay fro TGM_Skateboards.
i picked up some randal 180s, abec 11 gumballs and abec seven bearings for $155 including shipping!
you can't get it anywhere near that cheap on TradeMe!
but if you don't want to buy internationally, check out 'humbleches' on TradeMe - importing landyachtz, comet and randal skate products, or www.bestboards.co.nz

wheel bite is an issue with the C7. design a deck that will accommodate these trucks and sell it to carver.
i would recommend them if surfing is your thing. its a good back leg workout. you dont really pump rail to rail like normal trucks but you kinda use your whole body to weave. it feels like riding a shortboard (surfboard) as opposed to a longboard surfboard. weaving involves a lot of front foot lateral movement. very interesting truck. the ride varies with the deck length.
if you want to use big wheels, you'll have to use at least 3/4" risers on a stiff deck. bgger risers on a flexy deck.

@SomethingSmellsFishy you sure know your stuff. Must have been buying in NZ for a while. Ultimate Boards is great due to the personal care and attention from the guy who runs it, Nick. My son and I have picked up some gear from other online stores but only when Ultimate can't supply; they are my first port of call, especially when I need advice (which is always).

Question related to this thread: there don't appear to be many physical stores stocking a good range of longboard gear. Would you prefer to have the option to go to a shop and browse in person rather than online, or does it not really matter to you (happy to buy online only)? I know plenty of surf shops stock Sector9, but wouldn't it be cool to go look at and handle and 'try on' a wider range, from cruiser through to DH?

Re: longboard gear in NZ ?!?
i've shopped at all the above mentioned stores but do find the nz ones have limited choices. Hopkins is good and longbord store .com.au ( I think thats it ) is good.
Good to see there's some other 40 somethings skating in nz. Thought I was the only one.

Re: longboard gear in NZ ?!?
ive used most of the new zealand online stores and UtimateBoards and Boarderlines are both good. hyper is crap they have small range of brands, they don't know there stuff and the service is useless (Sent 5 emails over 4 weeks before i got a proper reply). i also get stuff imported from america from longboardskater, DaddiesBoardshop and theLongboardstore.
