auckland to tauranga is just over 200kms. I Went down last weekend 2 and a half max. Leave early in the morning and you can do it quicker. Just a warning that after about 9am theres a few cops on the road due to the nice long straights where people seem to go quite fast.
Goddamnit. Got 3 guys in welly real keen, but were all at womad that weekend...
Yeah a regular DH thing sounds mean, Carlton Gore rd in Oriental'd be wicked for racing if ya could get some hay or something on that corner

Hey Nacho, have you got a course decided yet? Can you put it up on google maps or something?
yup. spent 2.5 hours driving around town yesterday measuring the distance. we start of at newton st (in front of KFC) off hewletts rd in the mount. finish line is at the southern end of marine parade rd. the race will be just under 10km. this way everyone will have enough energy for the hills. there are a couple of rough patches but this is a crucial part of the race. this is where your soft wheels and good bearings give you an advantage.
i'll try to draw it out or scan and post the course within the next 2 days.
Course:
1. Start at Newton St.
2. Go up all the way and make a left on Hull Rd. (this is where the rough patch is. find a smooth path and push)
3. Make a right turn at Totara St. (first few meters are rough but there is a sidewalk that is ok. it then gets really smooth but stick to the bike lane to avoid the traffic).
4. At the end of the road, we make a right turn at Rata st. and take the first left at the roundabout into Maunganui Rd.
5. You then make a left turn at the roundabout into Salisbury st. (you should see burger king to the right of the roundabout.
6. Salisbury will bend to the right into The Mall (street name) which is parallel to pilot bay (on your left). At the end of the road, make a right turn on Adams Ave.
7. From here, you just follow the road all the way until you hit marine parade (cafes on your right and the beach on your left. there will be another short rough patch. once you pass this, its smooth all the way. stay on the left side of the road and see you on the finish line which is right before the roundabout.
After the race is finished, we will award the prizes for the race and move on to welcome bay for the skate jam where more spot prizes can be won.
i dont know if people want to chip in and get a whole bunch of pizzas or just have dinner on their own and meet up after.
Hope the weather holds up.
cheers everyone and hope to see you all there smiling.
hey joe, thanks for doing that. thats real convenient. the finish line is all the way down marine parade though from where your last marker is. it will end just before tweed st. could you update the map please. thanks.

I planned to leave home about 9, earlier if the others are up for it. It's about 5 hrs driving time and I'll want to chill for a bit before the race. Probably arrive about 2.30-3 depending on stops on the way and if the others are out of bed
I'll email Richard tonight and try to finalise times/arrangements etc.
