Race Map:
Helmets, and gloves are required. No exceptions will be made under any circumstances.
The Map above shows the course pretty well. Top speeds for the race may reach as high as 45 mph, but anyone with some experience will be able to freeride the hill.
Tentative schedule:
Friday August 7th: (For anyone who arrives the day or night before.) We can swim in the pool here during the afternoon, and grill poolside (pool is big enough for everyone who comes.) We will most likely go for a freeride around 6:00pm (check out local hills, and the Penn State Campus), as I feel this is the best time to go out. There are some incredible spots that I have found over the past few months, and I'm sure you guys will love checking them out. In the evening we can throw a party here at my place. It is pretty big. We can fit at least 60 people in my apartment for a party. We can hang around, or sit outside by the fire pit as late as you guys want.
When people are ready to go to sleep, we have a few options.
Sleeping arrangements:
I have two apartments that we can use for this. If people do not mind sleeping in sleeping bags, or on the floor, you guys are more than welcome to crash in either place. I will check with the apartment people and see if we can throw tents up outside as well for anyone who would like to do that (the apartment people are cool, and would most likely approve.) Lastly, I have information on a few different campgrounds close-by.
Saturday August 8th: You are free to do what you want. Those of you who want to get up and take a freeride in the morning, I will be up. There are a lot of local breakfast places, Burger King is 100ft from my apartments. For those of whom decide to stay in the apartments, we will meet at my place at 10:15am, and get on the road by 10:30am. We will have a prerace meeting at 11:00am (ask for more information.)
I hope to begin the race at 12:00pm. Depending on the turn out, there will be heats of 5, or 6 racers, and top two finishers from each race will move on to the next round. We will continue this until we finish, and then will have a little ceremony (where we first met) after. First through fourth will be rewarded.
Following the race, I intend to have a freeride and we can leave whenever we are satisfied. For those of you that want to stay the night, the same options will be available to you again as listed above.
Sponsorship:
As of now, we have XVD Longboards supplying us with 4 custom completes that will be going to the First, Second, Third, and Fourth place finishers. These decks will have custom graphics, XVD has decided to incorporate "1st (2nd/3rd/4th) Place Finisher at the First Annual Tussey Mountain Marathon Downhill Race." They make awesome decks, and we are lucky and greatly appreciative to have their support. The guys will be coming to the event as well, and bringing new boards that we can shred. Also, we will be giving away a bunch of stuff from the guys at LongboardSkater.com including v4 Loaded Slide Gloves, Mini Monster Hawgs wheels, Bones Super Reds bearings, Vicious Grip, Speed Cream, etc.
I have some stuff coming from Randal Trucks, as well as Concrete Wave. SundaeSkates will be contributing a New Rayne Hellcat as well! Thanks so much to all of the sponsors, you guys are awesome.
There will more than likely be more stuff, this is all we have for now. I will be updating the flier with sponsors upon their inquiry. If you guys are able to find anyone who would be willing to contribute, that would be great. I am super excited about this. As of now, we have about 40 committed. I'm really hoping for a good turn out.
