question for all the downhill racers......

i've been watching a lot of dh videos and i noticed that most of them grab the tail end of the board when turning. i grab the middle. is there a difference? is it style? does the board turn better like that at higher speeds? my board is really stiff and i wouldn't think that it would make a difference, right? wrong?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it it makes the board drift less or more with more control.

a stink bug is a insect and when you grab your board between your legs thats what its called and it looks exactly like a stink bug when its taking a dump.

its cool everyone grabs stink bug in the beginning and you dont grab the tail you grab right behind your back foot...but do what feels right ive seen people grab right near there front foot, but when you grab stink bug its easier to tip over.

hey clarification, its only stinkbug if you grab inbetween your legs, there is nothing wrong with grabbing in the middle of the board.

Most people do not grab behind the back foot...... Stinkbug is between the legs, and the other way most people grab is right in front of their back foot, but behind the knee

everyone thanks for the tips. so i get it, stinkbug is only grabbingthe middle, in between your legs. i dont necessarily drop my knee to the board but it is low. when i turn i grab in the middle but towards the rear foot.

In addition to what everyone else said, grabbing behind your back wheel forces you to put more weight over your front truck and wheels. In addition grabbing further back on your board will pull your back wheels in more putting even more of the pressure over your front wheels. It depends on the person and the turn where you grab. I recommend getting out of the habit of stink bug and then just experimenting with grabbing at different places on the board till you figure out a system that works good for you.
