west coast canadian downhill events in spring '06????
hey all.
i'm a 35 year old longboarder out of sacramento looking for west coast canadian(montreal/vancouver)downhill events open to amateurs(4 man heats and such). i started longboarding in 2001 when myself and my friend were the only longboarders we ever saw in sactown. a buddy of mine started hosting an open mike on tuesdays downtown here a couple of months ago in a bar built into a 7 story garage so we started playing music there and skating between sets and suddenly people started hearing about this thing. we started with 5-6 guys in july and last night we had 26 longboarders from 18-40 years old racing this thing. now we're using earth.google to scope out real hills in our area for real downhill runs.
anyway---we're looking for an event to be a part of as competitors/spectators/volunteers on the canadian west coast next spring.
the local news here wants to do a "cool runnings" (remember the movie about the jamaican bobsled team?)type of story about it (i.e. the "flatlanders" heading to the big hills to race alongside those insane canadian bombers)
I've checked out a couple canadian sites. anyone with more info would be greatly appreciated! thanks! longboarding is blowing up!
...Moxie send me a message on the address to your garage in sacoftomatos..I will be in Yuby City in November. I thinking of bringing my ride. Would love to check it out if I could.

right on! you should definately come out! the garage is 15th and k street right on the corner. there is a bar built into it. to be honest, for someone from colorado, it's probably not the fastest thing in the world, but it's a HELL of a lot of fun with 15-20 guys lined up and racing down it, so i'd recommend tuesday night 8:30-12:00. there's always a good crew of guys there on mondays too, but pretty much any day you come there will be a few...but you have to wait until AFTER 8:30 pm, when the garage closes. the guy is gone and you can park in there for free.
also if you come on a monday or tuesday, we can take you to the 10 story garage just a couple of blocks away which is MUCH speedier and more massive. the guy who is security until midnight is an old guy named Monty, and we throw him a few bones and he's been totally cool with us. other times you will probably get chased out after a few runs
..Thank you. I got the info and will email you closer to November. I am one of the slower guys in Colorado. Nickel, and ShaggyIan who are on this board races longboards down BIG STEEP hills..they are the faster guys. I am not slow in the garages though!

if youre still interested in the westcoast canadian scene, 06 is supposed to be the best year yet for events in BC, by the way, montreal is nowhere near the westcoast, its about 3000 kilometers from the pacific ocean. go to coastlongboarding.com and ask the striker about specific dates and travel. attack of danger bay in pender harbour is generally on the may 24 weekend and the seawall cruise is a few weeks later. in bc in the summer theres an event almost every weekend right into september
train hard dude! If you haven't skated a real challenging long hill, do it before you enter a competition! Find areas to practice sharp turns at high speed! GOOD LUCK MAN!

hehe
i actually GREW UP in maine, moved to Cali after highschool, so yes, i did know montreal was east coast, guess i just kind of lumped it together to pull anyone out there with info on canadian events of any sort, since that's where the action seems to be.
ha! i actually saw DAVID LEE ROTH in Montreal when i was like 16 with a German friend of mine. now that's REALLY embarassing. we were SO STOKED!!. that's when he had steve vai with that f'in' DOUBLE-NECKED HEART-SHAPED GUITAR. the whole show was props and Dave drinkin' whiskey and belchin' god awful moans meant to emulate singing.
RRRRAAAAAAWWWWWWKKKKKK.!!!
growing up in a small town of 4000 people, there were NO concerts within reach, especially without a car. david lee roth was BIG time for us.
