I hope theres people out there... We have some really fun runs here in Guelph, Ontario, and i had a vision. Unite the solitary longboarders!! we are a solitary creature, traveling alone, avoiding the rush, hiding on back streets and in parkades...
I thought it would be nice to have 20+ boards bombing either Kortright Hill or Gordon St. That would be magnificant!
Starting a gang (a tougher name for a club I guess) in guelph would be solid. The owner of sugar sugar (sean) has a longboard as does chris who owns bits and bikes. My gf just got one last week. Thats well on the way to a gang! Sean and I were talking about getting a group together come spring.
well, what do you expect? Theres people on this board from all over.
Ah well.
"And yet we stand, unfaltering, to declare the significance of GUELPH ONTARIO! A most virtuous shire with fine maidens and fine ale." (more maidens thatn ale mind you)
How sweet gordon Hill is in the Summertime! Quite the hazard when your looking everywhere but in front of your board.
I guess you're right. Just a small city surrounded by hicks. Its like being king of the dipsh*ts. we got lots of (topless) hippies though. For all you who do not know about guelph, a woman from here wanted to go topless around town and got stopped. She took her case to the supreme court of Canada and won. So anyone can go topless basically anywhere in Canada. Hurrah!
Sounds to me like Geulphin' would equate to FUN! Except that it's colder than my freezer. When do y'all thaw out?
And no, sorry, until this week I had never heard of it.
Babes and ale... :thumb:

We thaw out in late march (optimistic view) to early April (still being optimistic).
DANNY S> I've been to Sidney, and I live in Guelph! Born n raised in Victoria. (god i miss that place and its mild un-Canadian winters!)
But besides the babes n ale, we are a pretty liberal town, ie. topless women... very politically active place, good arts scene, great music scene, nice people (in general). Especially nice when all the University folks go home in the summer, the place comes down to cruisin' speed, not so rushed and hectic, and COLD! I'm gonna drop a nut! It's -25*C here today!
Yeah, i took mt beater boards out yesterday. My buddy scott and i wheeled around for a bit, but there was too much traffic on the roads that were nice n dry. He just started skating, so he was a bit nervous of the whole dodging cars thing... cant say i blame him!
marbles .. got a question for you .. i haven't been to guelph so i don't know the geography or topography of the area so these might sound like dumb@$$ questions but here they are anyway.
Is longboarding in Guelph a day time event or night missions only (due to reduced traffic at night) ? Is there enough runs for a full day of longboarding ?
The reason i ask is i'm scouting for new runs for the crew i ride with, we're always looking for new places to ride. If i can convince the rest of the crew that there is some good quality runs in guelph then a road trip might be in order.
If you're looking for lots of new runs, try going down the niagara peninsula. The roads going down the escarpment range from gradual hills, like snake road in dundas to elevator shafts (see effingham road in Fonthill). Traffic tends to vary depending on the road so it may be a night time or dawn activity. just check out all the roads from Hamilton to St. Catharines.
Hey! Dug this thread up from obscurity... but someone metioned to me that there were a few other longboarders here in Guelph, and I thought it better to dig up something old rather than start a new one (just to prove this n00b can use the search funtion )
I'm a snowboarder, just looking at getting into longboarding.. perhaps motivated by the fact that I live right at the top of the Gordon St. hill.
Can I ask what local retailers you guys deal with (or do you make the trek to T-dot?). I stopped in at Bits n' Bikes the other day and they didn't have much.
Hey, I think you'll have to go to T-dot or there's Outdoor Excitement in Hamilton but I haven't been there in the summer to check their longboard stock. Its nice to know there's a bunch of (long)skaters from guelph. My gf was looking for other gals to ride with too. We gotta start a gang and terrorize the town, or at least take over the local parking garages.
