    Default Halifax Riders

Any riders currently in Halifax? I'm just getting into long boarding and go to school up here but not from here originally. Getting my new gravity next week so you guys should show me some good spots.

    Hey!
I just bought my first longboard a few weeks ago. I had skated street before that, but a bum knee ended that. I live in Dartmouth (near mic mac mall, to be specific). Do you know what proskates carries in terms of longboard stuff?
    Cheers!

    Hey man, finally a response...

Proskates doesn't carry much at all longboard wise, i went their to check out some wheels and all they had was a very limited amount. Mainly S9 stuff.

What kind of board do you ride?

I've just got a Sector 9 "Bomb Hills Not Countries" , with gullwing chargers, 74mm 78a s9 9ball wheels, and bones reds.. I was in Florida, and I picked it up from Ron Jons. I'm still learning about longboards, so I pretty much just bought the one that looked the best
Two friends and I are ordering some slide gloves soon, and I'll hopefully be picking up some harder wheels eventually to help slide with.
    How about you?

I've got a gravity hypercarve w/ trackers and lime zigzags. I haven't learned how to slide yet, was hoping i could meet someone to help teach me.

Yeah we don't really know how, so I guess we're going to just keep trying until we get it, haha. I joined a facebook group called eastcoast longboarding, and it's these guys who used to go on rides every sunday night around halifax, but it seems pretty inactive now. If you search halifax longboard on youtube, there's a video of a guy bombing Citadel, pretty sick video.
I'm going to skate over to pro this weekend and check out their selection.
Are you in Halifax or Dartmouth?

I live in Dartmouth up by Mic Mac Mall.
Haven't tried point pleasant yet, I think I may try this weekend. I haven't been there in a while, there's enough room at the bottom to slow down without needing to slide though, right?

Theres tons of space, it wraps around the corner and leads down towards a parking lot where you can carve out the speed once your done.

I did it for the first time yesterday and did it 10+ times lol. It was kind of sketchy at first because i got wobbles when i was close to the corner and didnt have any safety gear. You can probably hit 40mph easy on it, just make sure to have your trucks tight enough.

I road tripped out East last Fall. You guys have some ridiculous hills out there! Especially in Cape Breton! I need to come back with my leathers...

Yeah Cape Breton is awesome, I'm taking a trip up there hopefully late summer or early fall. Hopefully I'll have another board by then.

    Sounds good dude.
I'm skating over to buy some records from a guy, and once I find out what time that's at, I'll post it here, and if you're interested we can go skate point pleasant/other places.
I've got a wrist gps which is cool for measuring speeds.
edit: I'm heading over tomorrow (saturday), I'll post the time

Hey, sorry man, didn't get a chance to post in time. The guy told me what time he would be there at, and I didn't have any time to post it.
    Sorry dude
I didn't end up doing the point pleasant hill, I think my trucks might be too loose.
Proskates/frozen ocean have weak longboard gear, 3 pairs of wheels :s

Yeah they do have a really weak selection, pretty dissapointing. I just order whatever I want online and send a money order, much cheaper.

Point Pleasant was fun yesterday, did it during the day and did some midnight runs too, its super fun at night with no cars and lots of lighting.

My friend just got a longboard, and another finally got around to getting new bearings, so he's riding, too.
So that makes four of us, plus you. We should hit up Halifax some day. We had a wicked time on Saturday... the parking garage by MEC is a blast.

    hey all

I was glad to find this thread.
We've got a 3 person crew that have been boarding for about 9 months together around halifax.
We've been over most of the city and some outlying areas, we'll be learning how to slide in the next few months (getting gloves together, one guy bought a new board, I'm getting new wheels/trucks..)
Right now I'm bum up with a broken arm, we use the driveway for Canex (it's off of windsor st. by the military living zones) as a practice zone and I took a tumble doing sharp toeside turns (gravel..) but we should definitly organize people once we're all up and running.
I have a landyachtz evo, I'll be getting 77mm hawgz and I have seismic trucks..
my friend shawn rides 1) Landyachtz urban assault 2) Sector 9 Sidewinder
and my other friend rides .. I think it was called an Insider.. float/cruiser style with 76mm gumballs.

If your interested I can also give you some tips on places we've found..

    Rad dude!
We've got a four person "crew", and two of the guys just ordered some harder wheels for sliding.
We're planning on heading over to Halifax one of these days really early, and just bombing around pretty much everywhere.
    We're a bit younger (I'm the oldest, 17, the others are 16).
One of the other guys has registered here, but I'll tell the others to do so, too.

    hey all,

I'm a (mostly) lone rider from the Annapolis Valley, I ride mostly in Wolfville. My set up is an Arbor bamboo pintail, Randall 180s and either 68a 76mm Gumballs or 96a 65mm No Schoolz depending what I'm up to. I've been riding for a year now and try to keep a balanced progression in all diciplines. If anyone is interested in riding just drop a line I'm always game.
