Maryhill Festival of Speed 2009!
The premier North American gravity festival is back for 2009. This year's event will go on, without participation or support from the City of Goldendale where you all paid for skatepark renovations after the Mayor's scandal, but the races are on, the hill is open and the owners of the road are stoked to have you come race, camp, freeride & party at the Festival of Speed!
2009 Maryhill Festival of Speed
REGISTRATION OPENS IN JUNE

If you were anywhere near your television, a computer or a decent skateboarding magazine in 2008, you know all about what went down at the Maryhill Festival of Speed. The endless freeriding on 28 banked curves over a nearly 3-mile course, hundreds of gravity racers, eating, camping, partying and enjoying live bands, killer local hospitality and perfect weather,; captured well by NBC's Jeep World of Adventure Sports and the crew at Orangefiist. If you know what the Maryhill Festival of Speed is all about, then your only two questions are whether it's going down again and how you're going to make it there. Well, the town with an overwrought, imaginative Mayor isn't any part of it (officially) but the locals are supportive and the Festival of Speed is coming to Maryhill on September 2nd to 6th. Registration is as last year: "Priority Reg" opens June 21st, and "Open Reg"opens the First of July. Details and more, below:

No there are a total of 85 spots reserved out of the 160 available in Downhill Skateboarding. Out of those I would expect 40-50 of those reserved spots to be used. That means there could be approximately 110-120 spots available when open registration begins on July 1st.
Last year the event sold out 7 hours after open registration began.
Yes, payment is due at the time of registration.

We actually have a Junior I Downhill Skateboarding class for 8-13 year olds this year.
He will need:
1. A release waiver signed by either the parent or legal guardian. If they are not present the waiver must be notorized.
2. Pay the entry fee of $255.
3. IGSA required safety gear including full leathers, full face helmet, full finger leather gloves. (see IGSA rule book)
4. An IGSA legal skateboard. (see IGSA rule book, must pass tech).
5. The skills and attitude to come to Maryhill and have a great time!

This depends on tail/headwinds, but here's what the radar told us at the bottom of the straight leading to Cowser's (ie top of Cowser's Corner) int the weather:
2007: 43mph
2008: 38mph
Note, however, that the TQ times in '08 were faster than they were in '07.

If I am reading what is posted on the front page correctly, there are only 75 priority spots;
Men 50 Top IGSA, 4 Finished in top 10 in 2008 FOS, but not in top 50 (6 where in the top 50)
Women 10 Top IGSA, 1 Finished in top 5 in 2008 FOS but not in top 10
Juniors 10 top 10 2008 FOS finishers
54 men, 11 Womean, 10 Juniors for a total of 75 (Technically it is 85 but 10 spots are double counted, 6 guys and 4 women are invited twice)
So that leaves 85 guearanteed at large spots. And while past performance does not quarantee future returns, only half of the top 50 went to FOS last year.
As a Reminder I believe something close to 30 spots were given to people on the reserve list last year. So if you fail to make it in, make sure you get on the reserve list.

Re: 2009 Maryhill "Festival of Speed "Official" Thread
I'm just wondering, is there any open freeride session for non-competitors? Do the owners allow you to skate their road without leathers? I don't have enough money for leathers and entry fees, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't stand much of a chance in competition anyway so I don't want to enter the race. I really just want to come see the event, camp out, hang with other longboarders, and most of all ride this awesome hill. So my question is, can I just show up and freeride? (with no leathers).

If you go fast enough, you never have to look back.

There is no freeriding during the Maryhill Festival of Speed. Only registered athletes will be allow on the race course due to insurance restrictions. Yes, leathers are required at all times during the event.

Once you are registered in the junior class we will email you waivers. If your parent is not attending then the waiver must be notorized.
