Working on a Central Pa Event!
I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm working on getting an event together here in Central Pennsylvania over the next few months. I'm going to get the specifics on a few of these hills that I rode a little while back, and see if they are raceable. I have talked to a few sponsors about coming out, or contributing to the event. I want to have a weekend long event where we get together Friday for a cookout at my place at Penn State, and ride and party throughout the weekend. Campus is fun to cruise through, and there are some gnarly local hills. Here is the link with a few more details:
Penn State Event
Let me know if you're a Yes, No, or Maybe, and what weekends are best.

Re: Working on a Central Pa Event!
So, my ambition is paying off so far. I have XVD sponsoring the event so far:
XVD Longboards
They replied to my email within 6 hours, and promised to contribute 3 custom completes with custom graphics and "1st, 2nd, and 3rd place at the First Annual "Whatever we decide to call it." So for those of you with an overflowing quiver, you will have a trophy. Check out their site, they make some nice stuff. I will keep updating the prizes, and I plan to have a whole bunch of free giveaways. Let me know about what weekends will be best.

Awesome, any weekends in particular? You could leave at 10:00a.m. and make it in time for the 11:00a.m. prerace. 8)
How does everyone feel about the weekend of July 18th for this thing?

EDIT:
Would you guys want any kind of media coverage? Penn State is all about covering things like this, I'm sure I could get someone from the Collegian (newspaper) to write something up, or get a pro video crew for the event. Let me know. My girlfriend is in marketing, and will probably spread word around here. for the event.

Re: Working on a Central Pa Event!
my suggestion is to push it at least to the middle of July or later. I know these guys are a little stressed financially from these races being piled on top of each other.
the later the better, I'd like to heal so i can play too................says the selfish guy

I probably cannot do any later than that because I will be moving in those following weeks to a different apartment, and will need some time to organize and get things packed up. As far as I know, the XVD guys probably aren't going to make it, but if any other sponsors are interested in coming to the bash, I might schedule it one of those two weekends to fit their schedules.

Re: Working on a Central Pa Event!
UPDATE: The XVD team will be attending, and they will have 15-20 of their new boards for people to ride to their hearts content. I'm stoked to the max.

Re: Working on a Central Pa Event!
I wouldn't be confident enough to actually race but I would love to come back up to PSU to watch.
By the way, do you ever ride with the longboard club? And is anyone continuing it next semester? I think the founders all graduated this year.

Definitely come and hang out. There is a more mellow 5mi long hill right next to the race hill.
EDIT:
My friends who own the local shop are going to come out. I think 2 of them want to race. They are also trying to swing some deals with their connections. They say they can get a bunch of stuff to throw in.

I am going tomorrow to ride the hill with 3 friends. I will try to get some footage. I'll get back to you with the average speeds, and all of that. I will be taking the GPS. If all goes well, I will officially post the date tomorrow evening. August 7-9th weekend is set in stone. 10-15 locals are already in for the race. The guys at the local skate shop are going to be spreading the word too, so there should be a pretty insane turnout. I will cement everything tomorrow after the ride.

Re: Working on a Central Pa Event!
Okay, I rode the hill today. Here is the deal:
The road is about 2 and a half miles long, it had super smooth pavement over about 95% of it. There is a wooden bridge in the middle of the hill (about a mile and a half from the top,) and it is a little rough by the bridge. We rode it 5 times today from top to bottom. You probably would have an average speed of about 25-30mph over those two miles. I hit 32mph today without a tuck on one part of the hill. Here was my setup for the cruise:
Not setup for downhill at all.
TLS Basic with Paris 180s. Softest hourglass bushings that Holey offers, Otang 4pres(80a,) and abec 5s.
Pretty weak, but I'm pretty sure I could hit 35-40mph. I know that the DH guys could fly on this thing. So here is the deal, we will decide what part of the hill we want to race, or we can race the whole thing. This is a marathon ride. If you guys don't mind a hybrid race, this will be awesome. You will not have to pump at all down the whole hill, but at one or two parts you will probably want to. I am planning on going back out Thursday to ride it again. This is the best hill me, or any of the guys in my crew have ever ridden. We will need to shuttle for this race. My friend has a pickup with 4 doors that will be clutch, and anyone else with a truck can drive as well.
Let me know if you guys are down to do this. I will video some of this and upload it Thursday if weather allows.
Best hill ever
