big summer trip
So to start off, I'm not exactly sure if this is the right place to be putting this.
But, me and my friends are planning a road trip next summer making a loop consisting of texas, new mexico, arizona, califonia, oregon, washington, montana, wyoming, and colorado.
We don't have a specific route set up yet, but we're getting started on that tomorrow. We're looking to do more than longboarding. We have some national parks planned out and just places in general that we want to go to. but if you live in these states and want to give us a nice meal, a place to stay, or let us come longboarding with you at your local spots. leave a post with suggestions. we are willing to change our course to fit you guys in. it would make it alot more fun for us. but i don't want you to post your information up here and say you're going to give us a place to stay and bail on us next year or get shot or something.
here is a list of places we're looking into going right now as typed by a "co-planner":
Parks
Texas
Guadalupe Mountains Park
New Mexico
Gila Cliff Dwellings Park
El Malpais Park
Arizona
Grand Canyon (campsites available)
Petrified Forrest
Wupatki Park
Ditches (exact location?)
California
Yosemite Park
Redwood (campsites available)
Muir Woods (campsites available)
Death Valley Park
Joshua Tree Park
Devils Postpile Park
Oregon
Crater Lake
Washington
Mount Rainer
North Cascades Park
Olympic National Park
Montana
Glacier National Park
Wyoming
Yellowstone (for sure)
Bighorn Canyon
Colorado
Rocky Mountain National Park
Great Sand Dunes Park
Texas
Lake Meredith Park
Cities & towns
LA
Hollywood
Seattle
El Paso
San Fran.
Alkatraz
Small & unknown towns
So, If you'd like to give any suggestions for places you've always wanted to go, or that you think we should go, post it up. And once again, a place to stay would be nice.

Re: big summer trip
Sounds fun, is this going to be "Skate-across-America" trip, or a drive?

Re: big summer trip
no. we're driving. we plan on trying to do everything we ever felt like doing and just having the best summer before going our separate ways for college and such. but it would be alot cheaper to skate it. however i don't think i could do that.

Re: big summer trip
This is a fairly ambitious trip. How long do you plan on going for? I would shoot for quality over quanity. You may need to cut out some of those places, and spend a little more time in the other places. Just something to think about.
Not really sure what your loop looks like, but if you are hitting the Grand Canyon, I would recommend trying to get to Arches in Utah and Monutment Valley in Az
You may also want to post this in the various regional forums.
Devil's Postpile is cool, but isn't exactly easy to get to. It has to be approached from the west side of the Mountains. I guess though if you are heading to Yosemite, you can come in from the back side and see Tioga Pass (this is a road I've always wanted to ride) You can check out the road EDI raced in Mammoth as well (not to mention the road down to the postpile is pretty wicked, but probably unridable due to traffic)
Joshua Tree is an interesting park, but for me it was only worth it for a drive thru. But I think that the road through the park is rideable.

Re: big summer trip
there are tons of places i want to go but i am looking for a quality experience. i want to go to zion national park, but i think they put you on a ridiculous waiting list. the plan is for the trip to be 1.5 months, but i dont know how doable that is.... sorry about the lack of the shift key and punctuation, im using a handheld

Re: big summer trip
Alright, big let down for me, but whatever. This trip is probably going to end up being only in Texas for the time being and do this trip after college or something. So if anyone knows of some great places in Texas or anyone that wants to meet up and ride, leave the info.

Well keep planning it. You never know what will happen. Or maybe you have to take the trip a year or two latter.
Not sure what you mean about a waiting list for Zion.
If you need to shorten the trip, think about hitting the Colorado Plateau. You can probably get some riding done in CO. Hit Zion, Arches, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, and a few other places. 500 miles separates just those 4.

Re: big summer trip
New Mexico isn't far! We've got tons of great DH runs, and Albuquerque has ditches!

Re: big summer trip
I know. I originally wanted to head up to my grandparents and hit everything on the way there, but my friends and their parents think it's a better idea to just keep it in Texas. And New Mexico really isn't much farther and I'm sure the ditches would be worth it.
I'm gonna see if I can get them to ease up and venture out. But I still need some good places for well...Texas
