2010 Beast Coast Downhill Season Proposal
Hey guys, after talking to as many skaters as possible, I'm under the impression that everybody on the East Coast is in favor of having some sort of race season. I'd like to open this up to discussion here to see what you guys think, and see if there is any way that we could get this rolling for 2010. It's obvious that not every weekend would work out perfectly for people to take off of work, and travel from school, etc., so I've come up with a few things that I think might make it possible. I say we start the Season at the beginning of March, and end at the end of October 2010. Do you think that it would be better to have 12 races over those 8 months (4 months with 2 races, and 4 months with 1 race,) or do you think 15 would be practical? Talking to some people, we came up with the idea that if we had 12 races, the racers would be only responsible to make it to 9 of them (so that if you have a scheduling conflict, go on summer vacation, etc, you can work around it.) We are going to have to get people involved early to commit to sponsoring events, then have people sign up for the season, then rate the courses that we will be racing on a scale from 1-10 (1 being the least difficult, and 10 being the most difficult.) We could score the individual events with a points system (10 for first, 9 for second, 8 for third...etc,) and weight how many total points you get according to the courses difficulty. An incentive to make it to 9 races could be that if you show up, and race, you automatically get 2 points (times the difficulty of the course.) This would be the simplest way to do things (that I or anyone I've talked to, have thought of.) We could have something small like a $20-$25 Season fee, and use that as prize money for the winner of the final race. Event organizers, as they are chosen, would be responsible for coming up with sponsorship for the individual races if they would choose to do so.
If you guys have any input on this, please get in contact with me. If you are in favor of getting something like this together, or have interest in maybe hosting an event, post about it here. I've decided that if an event is busted, or rained out (if people do not finish the race,) we will throw it out without counting it as one of the races that you're able to miss. People with past experience with hosting will have first choice of dates, with no more than two weekends in a single month, and no consecutive weekends unless we decide it to be necessary.
This is going to have to be solidified after some input, and things will have to be adjusted for. Any input is greatly appreciated, and all concerns will be addressed.
Thanks,
Jamie

Re: 2010 Beast Coast Downhill Season Proposal
i think as many races as possible is practical. preferably concentrated during the summer months so that its not an issue for people who go to school other places to get to alot of events.
also if you need a new england organizer id be happy to run a couple races

Right, agreed. The people with work concern me though. It's hard to take off every weekend to race. I will absolutely not even consider having more than two races per month (2 out of 4 weekends,) and would really like to not have any consecutive weekend races (but is definitely possible.)
So we have a vote from you for something more like 15 races over the course of the season? I'm sure it will depend on the availability of Hosts for events.
Keep it coming guys...

It's there as well Keith. I we need to get people over there. Its still in its infancy, and I don't think we'd get enough people to join or enough input for the what people would want out of an East Coast Season there yet.
Give me some input here dude.

Re: 2010 Beast Coast Downhill Season Proposal
Instead of a season fee, why not have a fee for each races. What they do in Cali is pretty dope, except not charge as much per race.
10$ to race
then divide that between the top 3, then maybe put another percentage aside to give to the racers with the most points overall at the end.

Re: 2010 Beast Coast Downhill Season Proposal
Once I get down in Texas, it will be a lot easier for me to make it to some events, especially if they are stretched out that far between each other. I don't know about entering, but I would love to be a part of the team, helping set up hay bales, security, whatever, just to get a chance to be a part of it. Especially anything that's close to where I am... Which, unfortunatly isn't east coast

Then don't hold every race in one state.
Besides, if it was 25$ for the year, what if a noob shows up to a race in the middle of the season. Is he going to pay the 25$ or just get in fro free or what?
5-10$ per race, keep them somewhat scattered

Yes, it makes sense, but the idea of the season, aside from having a circuit is to award the best skaters in the league. I'd rather just get it all at once upon registration so things don't fall apart. That would be all the more incentive for people to come to the minimum number of allotted races.
Again, this same thread is in in the BeastCoastLongboarding.com forum.

Re: 2010 Beast Coast Downhill Season Proposal
i think that the whole east coast is a lil big to run a series over the whole thing what if we divided it into two series one that was like new england, new york, new jersy and pa. and one thats like maryland va nc and sc

That's not going to happen. The people from NJ and Va are real good friends and the Pa, Va, Maryland, NY, everyone wants to ride together. We'll try to get the core of the races from NJ to Va, an and maybe a few outside of it. The IGSA is international, I'm sure people will figure it out if they're serious about it.

Re: 2010 Beast Coast Downhill Season Proposal
well thats stupid. if your gonna call it a beast coast seiries then make it a beast coast series not a central beast coast series. i never said that people in one couldnt catch some races in the other. im just trying to make sure that people on the extreme ends of the reigion ie. massholes vermonters and peeps in north carolina and thie like dont have to drive 4 to 6 hours for an OUTLAW

Keith list the best venues from this year and which ones you wanna see on the circuits, we'll be sure to avoid the others that aren't so good.

Re: 2010 Beast Coast Downhill Season Proposal
the more races you have the less people will be at each individual one

I figured that. I might consider shortening the Season and going from May-October with 10 races throughout those months. Registered racers will be able to scratch their lowest three points-weekends. So if they can't make three weekends, they won't be affected. If they make all 10, the lowest three points-scores will be scratched...etc.
Sound better?

Re: 2010 Beast Coast Downhill Season Proposal
still confused why if there are 17 states on the east coast you think its a good idea to concentrate events in 5 of them

Just stop. There can be races anywhere. I don't care where they are. Are you going to be running one? The majority of the Downhill races on the East Coast are concentrated in a few states, and we're going to be relying on people who have hosted in the past to involve their races in this league. It would be great to have them everywhere. If you want to have a race, let me know and we will figure it out. Anywhere on the East Coast is fine.
