    why do some of the Firnspiegel boards have the huge almost board-long bar cut out of the middle??

    i think you're talking about the split swallow right?

    i thought it was kind of odd looking too when i first saw it...and i'm
    not sure who on the team is riding one, they
    could answer it better i'm sure...but what some people say
    is that you get a response much like a snowboard when you toe
    or heel edge the deck...that it's very alive, if you will...

    also, an unintended but convienient aspect is that you have
    a built in carrying handle

    It gives a sort of reverse concave response to the board... turns almighty quick on the lean-side, without jacking the high-side as fast. Many snowboarders have raved about it, many more will.

    I'm hoping to try a split-gin soon...

    the gin and tonic is Rick's fav. i also hope that one day i might be able to ride an S&S (hint). it help you recover from your carves so you may start your next one sooner.

    Mellow Motion had the split deck before, unfortunately, the company burned down. I REALLY wanted that board. Now Firnspiegel has something very, very similar. I'd like to try one.

    The Gin and Tonic is my favorite board EVER! I love it. I highly recommend it. Here's another pic of me carving at night. I did NOT bail on this carve.
