Big shout out to all who are supporting Mr. James Peters on the LiveStrong 24-hour Ultra-skake around Greenlake. Dan-O and i, are going to pull an all-nighter on Friday to help James accomplish this heculean feat. We are both bringing our bicycles, as well as our boards, we are expecting noodle legs after a few hours of skateboard pumping with James. Bicycles I'm sure will help us go the duration, past sunrise and on til 8:00am.]

James Peters, you are an inspiration!

    Hello Silverfish Gangstas!

I'm posting to the Fish LIVE from Greenlake on a perfect, sunny Seattle day. I've just longboarded 4 laps of the lake alongside James Peters for the LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate fundraising skateathon, and you'll be pleased to know that James is looking fantastic and is setting his characteristically wicked pace as he pumps circles around the 2.8 mile lake.

James will be riding until 8am Saturday morning PST. Be a part of the mission! Grab your board and please ride along today for just a few minutes, and then make a donation to the Lance Armstrong LIVESTRONG foundationby contacting pavedwave@comcast.net.

    http://www.pavedwave.org/ <- here's the URL

James is already more than 1/8 of the way toward completing his goal of 24hrs continuous longboarding and 200 miles, and he's skating fast and smiling like a fool at this point.

We are shooting video of this ride, and I'll have that canned up for all of you in a day or two. Keep checking back and I'll post another update with photos in a couple of hours.

My $$ are in. I'm off for a 5mile trip 'round Prospect Park as soon as I can escape from this office.

Props to James! Looking forward to seeing the video.

Seven hours! That's 1/3 of the way! James is looking good, feeling good, and still smiling. His pace is ripping and is on target to set a new distance record of 200 miles. Send some energy and posi-vibes James's way today while you're sitting around with a sammich. He has a long dark night at the lake ahead of him.

Here are some shots of James in neon yellow fueling up between laps, and the other pic is Gareth Roe holding a Roe Mermaid.

Hey I'm back, and this event is now half over. It started at 8am and it's now 8pm. 12 more hours to go. I can't count how many laps I've made today, but James has gone nonstop all day and it's pretty impressive to see him moving as fast as ever and making it look easy.

The sun is starting to set over the lake, and there's a 10 mph headwind that makes one half of the route pretty difficult and chilly. I'm going to jump back on the board with about 4 others right now and go and look for the neon demon descended from an Energizer bunny and a tasmanian devil. I'll upload another report in a few hours.

Me again. It's almost 1am here on the West Coast, and James is still rolling after 17 hours of near-continuous skateboarding. Some of the laps just before midnight were probably the fastest yet, as the crowds of rollerbladers and stroller pushers disappeared leaving an empty path, no wind at all, and comfortable temps in the 50's.

An influx of new riders for the "late shift" has arrived and they're keeping James stoked and pushing him to keep up a good pace. He's definitely on track to destroy the old distance record. That's what I have for you now. I'll be back later with more info!

A full day and night of riding with a crew of the best friends and supporters you could imagine. Can't ask for much more. The riding conditions were almost perfect, strong wind during the day, but blue skies all around, amazing moon-lit trails (no need for the bike-lights), and an unexpected 3 a.m. sprinkler system kept things interesting! I'll post up more highlights later on the PW site, still recouping and had a good half day of sleep, thank you Ken for keeping some details up here and for charging some laps with us!!

Here are the ride specs and some pictures

    start time
    8:11 a.m. 5/11/07

    end time
    8:10 a.m. 5/12/07

GPS unit #1 (until battery expired)
    time: 8:42:15
    95.41 miles

    GPS unit #2
    time: 9:01:10
    88.65 miles

    total GPS miles recorded: 184.06
    total laps completed: 65
average GPS miles of one green lake loop: 2.84

    The crew included

    Gareth, Ian, and Nathan Roe
    Calin Schepler
    Seth Zeichner
    Aaron Erbeck
    John Liddicoat
    Ken Barrett
    Patrick Alldred
    Cole Chadwick
John, John Jr, and Kevin Stryker
    Brad Jackman
    Corey Moy

    - and others who jumped in the ride during the day, losing sleep and passing the baton at our home base, Gareth's kids did amazing bike support and I think were digging the idea of camping out for the night. The last lap with most on the CSA crew was a huge highlight. Once again THANKS -- you guys made it happen.

Well it's Mothers Day and there's a lot more to do than update sites so here's some highlight and pics of others that showed for support.

    Other highlights...

    - Launching the first calm, sunny morning laps off mellow with Gareth and Calin
    - All the dogs that lunged at us, especially the Possessed Devil-bark Dog
    - Ken's near miss with a wheelchair
    - The evening's new tingly feeling sliding sweatpants over sunburnt lobster calves
    - Patrick's father's weight belt which I proudly wore from midnight to the morning
    - Patrick maintaining a hilarious "keep your sanity" dialogue through all the moon-lit laps
    - 'Racing' the Roe boys on their mountain bikes most of the night
    - Nathan Roe riding extra laps to stay up way past Dad's bedtime
    - Patrick's 'make you squirm' concentrated Green Tea and Ginseng shooters
    - The unexpected 3 a.m. sprinklers, turning an otherwise dry course into a riverbed
    - The mysterious robed singing woman at 4 a.m... or was she a mirage?
    - Cole's rejuvenating Starbucks run after we'd hit THE WALL around 4:30/5 a.m.
    - Gareth's ability to pump up the steepest hill after a few minutes sleep all night
    - Support calls from Trevor (d-tea) before, during, and after the ride! Thanks bro!
    - Cancer survivors, friends and family who showed up to cheer at the end
    - An amazing wall of sound at the Finish coming from such a small group of people!

Thanks again to those here on the Fish as well, who've ponied up some SERIOUS support to the LIVESTRONG campaign--

    James-
I am going to start this post off by apologizing in advance for gushing...

I have been very lucky and have had some pretty amazing skateboard experiences over the last six years. Being a part of your incredible journey tops the list! Ken's video clips show your smooth style. (Ken, thanks for documenting the feat with your great video - nice work!) I was there for your first and last laps and that fluid, efficient style didn't change throughout the entire 24 hours. Your last lap looked as smooth as your first lap!

All I had to do when I was pumping up the Bath-House Hill, was think about the fact that we were there skateboarding and that there are too many people in this world who will never be able to do something as simple as ride a skateboard - because of cancer. I am very lucky and privileged to have had the opportunity to skate with you. I will try harder every day to remember just how lucky I am and not take it for granted that I am healthy and able. We have all been impacted in one way or another by cancer. Thanks to you and your freakish skateboarding skills - you have raised awareness - and some cash to help fight this disease and build support for cancer survivors.

Needless to say, after spending all that time pumping - (different from slalom pumping, I might add) - I am hooked on LDP skating. Not that I needed much convincing. The boys and I will be heading out to the lake one night this week - wanna join us?
    Sincerely-
    Gareth
