Re: LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate -- Seattle and beyond
Gareth,
Thank you for the kind words, this on top of everything else you've done and continue to give selflessly to the skate community. I'm overwhelmed with the support of you and your boys camping out far more than 24 hours straight, and no doubt sleeping off a good portion of Saturday -- my family was also tremendously grateful!! We're still blown away from the strong showing of our local crew, best group of friends I've known. Honored to be a part.
You've seriously helped get the wheels rolling on the awareness (thank you too Ken, had no idea you were shooting from all those angles!), and as the LAF campaign continues into this July's Seattle To Portland event, I see donations coming in over time, from folks here on the Fish as well, its truly awesome.
And yes-- tell the kids I'm putting on some harder duro wheels for our next 'race' around the lake!
Best,
James
p.s. malcolm, nice job on another epic event- looks like some competition is brewin up there! appreciate the other pumpin comments, i'm sure we'll all start seeing some more pump-addicts out now that the weathers picked up

Re: LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate -- Seattle and beyond
Great job James, Gareth, Patrick, and everyone else that skated and showed up for support. Last weekend was awsome. I think about this time I was on my third lap around the lake, and it was about 60 times for you guys! I glad to say that I've been a part of it .
James, do you have plans for anymore events soon?

To All,
Yes, James Peters (enduroman) is a true inspiration
Yes, I had a great time giving time and effort for "the cause" thanks for the invite!
Yes, you really showed me something around 5:00 am when you "hit the wall".
Yes, you hit the wall, gracefully and with purpose.
Yes, you reached deep inside yourself, gave a firm tug, and pulled through.
No, I have never seen that done live in person before, only in film or video.
Yes, that was one of the better experiences I have ever had.
Conrats to James!

James,
Unbelievable ride! I showed guys at work Ken's video of you going at it around Greenlake and they kept saying over and over: "You mean he doesn't put his foot down and push?" "How is that possible!"
Thanks for keeping the skating stoke going in the NW. Your efforts in keeping the Seattle group together and skating on a regular basis is the main reason I haven't "retired" from skateboarding. Thank you.

Wow--- time does fly--- Thank you Michael!
Anyone who's met you at the races knows you're both one of the most approachable, most low-key and friendly --and yet incredibly intense guys, who gives amazing coaching and advice on improving your game. CSA crew amperage bumps up a notch when you show to the sessions. I look forward now as much to the fall and winter skate sessions as to the summer races!
This last half-year my lower back injuries have required steady physical therapy, but your advice especially on the mental game, has been hugely influential for keeping mind and body in balance, especially when getting close to bonk.
Much more could be said -- but we'll strive to prove it on the course instead!
Heading into the 2007 STP this weekend, just off a fresh cool buzz from last weekend's Hood River GS--
And Mr.Bennett's just kicked into the cause!! Thank you Brian!!

James,
May the wind be at your back. I should be able to join you in downtown p-town for that beer - give me a ring when you have an ETA. Also, if you need a place to stay and recuperate, mi casa es tu casa.

Re: LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate -- Seattle and beyond
The STP could easily become an annual addiction. It was even more of a blast this go around, took a little more time to enjoy things like the free chocolate milk stop (Wilcox Farms), get a picture with the world's largest egg (Winlock), met many of the same cool people from last year and a bunch more. That's probably part of the reason I rolled into Castle Rock the first night in the dark. This year was great knowing the hills that were coming, what to expect and when to tuck and bomb. The Lewis and Clark bridge is still freaky as hell! I'm done eating Clif bars and protein drinks for a few weeks now. Still just recovering, still buzzing from the ride. Hoping to jot down more ride notes as the dust here at work settles. Can't thank cascade.org enough for allowing me along on this again, they host a great event, the logistics of organizing this thing across the state are mind-boggling.
Best thing of all was having Skip Marcotte meet up and skate the last quarter mile into Portland, then greeted by Subsonic Scotty and his kids, G-bomb Mark and my friend Sharon at the finish line party.
Would like to pull another bro or two into this next year!

James - Saw you out there doing STP. You were motoring. It was pretty early and we were still in Seattle. I did the one day version on my road bike with some friends maybe next year on the board. I don't know how you do the bridge in Longview cuz it's a little sketchy on a bicycle. Anyway congratulations.

Thanks Erik--- it would be very cool to ride the STP with other boarders next year, there's been a couple other guys kickin the idea around. Stay in touch on this one! Those expansion joints on the bridge are nuts, and on top of that there's chunks of wood off the logging trucks to zip around, so if anyone gets really serious about this I'll definately prep them with some gnarly bridge stories.
As for the next distance ride-- we're currently planning LIVESTRONG II, October 27th, 7 a.m. (heavy rain postpones to the following week)
Anyone up for a 50-miler practice run, let's meet up @ Noon, North of Fremont Bridge, October 6th. The goal here will be to GPS out a "perfect" 25-mile turnaround point in Redmond, so that anyone shooting for their own personal mileage record on the 27th won't have to rely on any gadgets, but instead just checkpoints on the Burke and lap counts at Greenlake.
And this time, we'll track a combined mileage of everyone who rides-- your personal goal might be 10, 50, 100, 150...whatever you're up for, its all good!!
So anyone down for the 6th or the 27th, sign up on da Fish!!
