Re: LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate -- Seattle and beyond
9:18 AM Seattle
Steady Drizzle
The weather is calling for showers all day. If James is rolling on the Burke Gilman trail with the pack right now, they are getting wet and he's probably pushing his Rolls Rolls instead of pumping for the fender protection. I hope nobody falls!
Re: LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate -- Seattle and beyond
It's now 1:30 am
Dry conditions
Quick report on the Seattle 24hour Pavedwave Ultraskate!!
The rain finally let up in the late afternoon allowing the roads to dry out and James was able to switch from a pusher to a pumper. With the path dry conditions were much more decent at the lake for James and his all-nite crew. I just left the lake where his support team is hanging out. He's still kicking/pumping out the laps and feels strong and will be riding until 8am. That's the word from Greenlake!
Re: LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate -- Seattle and beyond
martin and nat, thanks again for the good vibes.
ken, the energy at the lake was at an all time high. really enjoyed your riding out there!!
the rain pounded us the first 25 miles, then off and on but rarely a dry patch. it only let up an hour in the afternoon at the lake, and just as the trail got dry enough to consider pumping, it showered again until about 6 p.m., and didn't dry off until roughly 3 a.m., by that time, was just too cooked and kept pushing. my ankles and feet look like balloons.
the next day? sunny and dry. today? sunny, warm, and dry.
mother nature was laughing at us, but we got a lot of good laughs in too
eric lowell clocked 166 miles, including some really fast finishing laps!
gabe gribler at 102 miles, things look good for his summer adventure
keito swan at 82 miles plus some change
sheldon 50 miles plus some greenlake laps
andrew from shoreline, 50 miles
rain from shoreline, 50 miles
Re: LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate -- Seattle and beyond
Brilliant achievement guys, you must be feeling pretty rough now! I can only imagine...I did a 65 miler in 8hrs for charity 'back in the day' and couldn't walk afterwards. My ride? A Turner Summerski set up for slalom, probably not ideal! Doh!
Re: LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate -- Seattle and beyond
James, i got an email from sheldon yesterday. sounds like the weather wasnt good. how was pushing this time? man, so stoked that you guys are pushing this longdistance thing along over there.
i went to dorney again this weekend and tried out the new black ops formula seismics. very nice.
the boardfree24 thing seems to have completely halted. not heard anything for a while.
skatefurther is going to organise an outlaw 10 hour skate regardless.
once again, congrats and i want to see evidence of sheldon smiling!
Re: LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate -- Seattle and beyond
I have a few hours of film in the can to boil down into a video for this. Give me a week or so. I have photographic evidence of Sheldon cracking a smile as well.

D-Tea thanks again for taking part in this man! Look forward to synching up a ride with you in June. Really appreciate the Gravity kick-in from you and Breamo!
MD - those light little boards are sometimes the chosen setup for the "short" pushers here (like portland 8--10 milers) but 65 would be brutal!!
Nat, to be honest, if it's dumping June 14th like it did last weekend I'd rather postpone to a better weekend. It was fine starting out the first 5 hours of rain, but I figured after it started letting up, it would dry out. When it dumped again in the afternoon, that was the biggest mental hurdle I'd experienced yet, even bigger than the 3 a.m. "wall". In retrospect I should have switched to the Cambiar which offers a lot more shock absorption than the rolls.
I'm checkin with Boardfree on the 24 as well, but radio silence here too...will let ya know. What's this 10-hour ride? Metric system stuff? C'mon, 24 or bust
Here's living proof distance is good for the psyche:
Re: LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate -- Seattle and beyond
thanks for the gangsta vid Ken! you made good with what bits we could offer you that long wet day. i know it wasn't exactly camera friendly.
Trevor D-Tea from Gravity has set us up with a G-complete, a HYPER CARVE to the person who throws down the next $200 LIVESTRONG donation on this site!!
Re: LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate -- Seattle and beyond
Look forward to seeing you in Salem on "Go Skateboarding Day" Cat! -- that'll be the week after the next Ultra, so who knows if I'll be race ready or not, but it doesn't really matter. Strategy this year is to not actually practice slalom and see what happens.
Some of the UK guys are waffling on the June 14th ride, but I'm trying to give them some ideas on alternate routes if they don't like the "default" one in Hyde Park. They already have their media circus set up, which is more than any of my rides have had "organized" in advance!
Here's the next mod on the rollsrolls-- trying to figure out how to shave time and increase mileage.

SEATTLE-ites
Tomorrow morning (Sunday) Barefoot Ted, Patrick and I are going to do a 30-miler, from my place on 145th and Burke Gilman, follow the trail through Kenmore, Bothell, Woodinville, out to Marymoor Park -- then back.
This is a great prep ride if you're considering the Ultraskate on June 14th.
We'll probably start about 7:30--7:45 a.m., and expect it to take about 3--4 hours, we're going mellow. Might even stop at the Redhook Brewery in Woodinville.
Drop a line if you might join at the start -- or connect with us anywhere along the trail!
