Re: LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate -- Seattle and beyond
James good luck with training and your next ultraskate! I am sorry I wont be able to join you on this one but I look forward to the next one I will be able to join you on and hopefully go the whole time! I am looking forward to doing the STP with you in July. I will talk to you sometime this weekend to hammer out all of those details. Good Luck!

Though i will admit its going to be hard putting the first ding or two into that beautiful board, i'm not going to pamper it too much
rodgon-- Trevor will be sending me the details on his start and stop points of his San Diego route in a couple days, as I think he's testing out the path right now. I'll definitely post it up soon as I know.
And Gabe sounds good, get your STP ticket soon if you're getting sure about it, they'll sell out early this year. We ended up on a totally different trail in south Seattle yesterday, and it was a total blast, here's the map

new developments
================================================== ===========
Ken Barrett is organizing a FOOD DRIVE for Northwest Harvest to happen at GreenLake, at the same time as the Ultraskate!
Skaters will wear backpacks, skate around GreenLake, and collect canned/boxed food from people then skate back to drop into the Northwest Harvest bins.
Forum thread: A word on hunger
================================================== ===========
and .... the UK guys have got their course figured out!
Trevor and RodGon should be synching up on the SanDiego course.
Barefoot Ted is joining Eric, Sheldon, and I for the full 24 hours here in Seattle. We'll spend the first 100 miles out on the Burke, then back to GreenLake around 6 p.m. onward for the night.
the weather better #$#!%@# cooperate!!

Re: LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate -- Seattle and beyond
The flier is done. I'll post them around the Greenlake/Wallingford/TangleTown area tonight on phone poles and stuff. I'm going to be there at about 4pm and I need as many of you that can show up as possible to roll around and pick up donations! Bring a BACKPACK or newspaper delivery bag to carry the donations and bring a couple of cans or boxes of something yourself!

Re: LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate -- Seattle and beyond
Powerbump for FOOD! Food Banks all over the country are struggling to keep items on the shelves. Food Bank usage increased by 20% in the year 2008. What's causing it? Record oil prices for one. When the price soars at the pump, two things happen immediately. It costs more to move the food, which makes it more expensive, but get this - it costs all of us more at the pump to buy the gas, and that leaves less money in the budget to buy the more expensive food! So there's your double whammy. But it gets worse!
The housing crisis. Payments have gone up, interest rates have shot up, and housing values have plummeted. All at the same time. The result? Record late payments. Record foreclosures. Both the rate of NEW foreclosures and late payments were the highest on record going back to 1979. That's bad!! That's people losing homes!!
Add to all of the above a weakened economy due to the lopsided trade deficit, and the staggering costs of two wars, higher unemployment and "under-employment" and it's safe to say that American families are having trouble getting by. Some have gone under entirely already. They are down but not out, and now many of them rely on the generosity of their neighbors to help them out. And that's where we come in.
We can help put some food on those food bank shelves and at the same time show the world that skateboarders are members of your community and we're not always scaring people, wrecking handrails and causing accidents. We can put our wheels and our legs into something meaningful and make a difference. We can help people by skating. It's so much bigger than buying a new board or wheels for yourself. It's about the other guy. It's about those who are hungry before school. Who take school lunches home to have something to eat at night. Who go to bed with empty stomachs.
I need as many of you Seattle locals to roll to Greenlake on June 14, meet up with the James Peters Ultraskate crew at 4:00pm, and cheer them on while pulling in some much needed food for the needy! It's a win trifecta my peeps. Come help out and bring a backpack or newspaper bag and SNAG SOME GROCERIES on the ROLL!! Could be fun, no?
No matter where you are, or who you are, put a can of food in a barrel somewhere today. You can feed somebody who is hungry and that is powerful stuff.
Thanks and I'll see you June 14!

Re: LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate -- Seattle and beyond
Ken, WAY cool -- Hope to see a lotta food rolling in!
More news: Trevor had to fly to Denver last-minute, but that's not going to deter his plans to ride the 24! He's packing his board and skating the duration at Washington Park, CO, which looks like a killer venue.
I think "Rodgon" is still planning to skate San Diego for 24?!
Last thing... a guy on NWLB forum just asked me about the rules / guidelines for the Seattle skate, so I think this is worth posting again here, for anyone thinking about the first 50-100 miles with us:
-----------------------------------------------------
i've never really jotted out the 'rules' because it's never had this many people committed to the full 24 hours! but especially for any riders who plan to join for the first 50 or more, i should point out at least this:
- follow the rules of the road. there are a few big intersections in the University district, later on around Sand Point, and in Kenmore, where you really need to be aware of cross traffic. blasting across a road without looking or against the signal lights can put you right in front of an SUV soccer-mom yakking on a cel phone. there are too many of those.
- follow good trail etiquette, with regard to bikes and peds. there are a lot of fast, competitive bikers training at 20--30mph out there, so stay to the RIGHT side of the trail, and keep looking back with some frequency. stay alert and respectful, set a good example!
- there's really only one hill on the whole trail that you might consider taking a few steps up when you're tired, and a very short one. it's near Wayne Golf Course near Bothell. other than that, the trail is practically all flat. as long as you're always moving under your own power only, it's all good. no skitching on bikers either, no matter how cute they are (but you can draft) -- we trust each other for those tracking miles, we're good like that.
- the other thing worth reminding is that this is very much an individualistic, survivalist type of course, not an "organized event", at least the first 100 miles. there are no supporters on hand, although I will be bringing some water bottles to the start line, you need to be ready for long miles and bring adequate hydration and power food along. up at Greenlake, it feels less like this, because more people can hang out at our spot at the stadium and we can "pit stop" there any time. it's a much more chill vibe there, and bringing a lawn chair or blanket is a good idea!
I'll go over any other questions at the Gasworks start line (this time!!)

Re: LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate -- Seattle and beyond
I've been speaking with pavedwave, and between me and Rodgon we're planning
on making it happen.
I think the Strand will be the perfect place.
I've have been doing some research for the path and I think this will be safe, flat, smooth
and do-able. 11 miles one way, 22 round trip, best plce we can think of, and we can setup a home base at Glorietta Bay park. This is all last minute, because
the person who was gonna put this together had to bail to colorado.
Here's a route map.
Silver Strand
Sleeveless and his son Anders will skating it with us also....
Rodgon, when you get online PM me, I sent you a message...
I'm wokring on getting us some spronsorship to help make it happen, food,
water, snacks, etc.. I spoke to Scott from Muir and it sounds like he'll help
up in some way with supplies, I hope, I'll be speaking with hime tomorrow...
If you're in, PM me or Rodgon and let us know so we can make this happen
SD people...

Re: LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate -- Seattle and beyond
That's one stoked crew coming together down in 'Diego, right on! "Silver Strand" what a great skate nirvana to have in your backyard. Surrounded by ocean the whole time?! - hope you can snap some pics along the way.
If anyone knows any distance skaters around Denver CO, drop Trevor a line! deciduoustea@hotmail.com. It was a bummer he had to split but the fact he is still skating and you guys managed to create a last minute SoCal plan, is insanely cool.
btw Gribs, STP just sold out

Rodgon sidekick SD update:
Started at 9 here in Coronado, stuck in traffic due to a jumper on the bridge ( accoriding to the cop I asked). Now its 2pm and im still going strong, taking a light break.
So far I've done the entire route twice, so 22miled x 2= 44 miles so far. Head wind is killing me here on the way north making it impossible to pump, so I've skogged ( pushed switch) both ways back north.
So far im the only one here, samhell and griffinsk8 should arrive at 5, the road isn't too lit so I might go to eastlake suburbia hell or mission beach to finish the night.
I have learned to not take my backpack while I pump long distance ( first time down it took a toll on my back) and im lucky to have a 7 11 on the far side of the strip to get refreshments and bathrooms.
So far so good, I made base at what I think is glorietta park, at the north end of the silver strand, so anyone wlling to come by and ride the company would be appreciated . ^_^.
Park near the black 350z and call if you'd like.

Ok enought talk, time to go skate some more.
Ill report again in a few hours

Go Rodgon Go! You've got my respect at 66 miles man. Keep up the good work.
I just did the math, if you ride til 9 tomorow, you have gone 66 miles in less than 8 hours. In 16 more hours you can go 132 miles, putting you at 198 for the 24. You can doooooo it!
What board(s) are you riding?

Re: LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate -- Seattle and beyond
Rodgon report 3:
ok, i finished the run at the silverstrand yesterday at 88 miles and semi dead...not semi.. pretty much completely dead... i then drove down to eastlake so i could ride in the nighttime in my local 2 mile trail. its not all flat, but its a nice cruise. i rode for a total of 8 more miles before my body was just not giving me anymore and i decided its time to stop. i wish i could have gone for 24, but 14 hours was where i topped out at 96 miles.
i woke up today and felt dead all over. hahaha its a good feeling. ill post up the pics i took later on.
oh! i rode a fibreflex kicktail ( with teh tail cut off) with 79a 71 mm alligators, youll get to see them in the pics/
