10 Day Weather Forecast for Seattle, WA (98125) - weather.com
Subsonic and RoeRacing will be at Greenlake Sunday NIGHT around 6 p.m.
Watching the weather, it's looking mildly sketchy 30% of rain, so the SUNDAY 8 a.m. start down at Gasworks Park (Urban Surf) is ON!!!

Re: LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate -- Seattle and beyond
Thanks SpamBot for the reminder on this thread...
Paul Kent did a whopping 250.4 miles on our last Ultraskate!!!
We did a combination of GPS records and my manual tracking from the log book starting at midnight until 7:20 a.m. when Paul stopped. Based on Paul and I coming to our best estimates, then two simple and pre-determined factors of our Seattle course, namely:
1. The Burke-Sammamish and Stone Way daytime = 102 miles
2. The Greenlake loop = 2.8 miles
We came to the conclusion of 102 miles + 53 laps, or 250.4 miles total.

Re: LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate -- Seattle and beyond
2 weeks from today we're doing this again.
ULTRASKATE 8
HALLOWEINER

FRIDAY OCTOBER 30TH
8 AM GREENLAKE!
Ultraskate EIGHT is HalloWeiner because we're trying to raise some FOOD this time. This can be in the form of canned food, a bag of weiners, or CASH -- and actually a donation of around $10--$20 cash would be highly recommended (over weiners.)
I'm pitching in $50 to get it started -- the FoodBank that we're supporting can get about 3-to-1 on every donated dollar, because when they do the food shopping they get seriously low wholesale rates. So your $20 becomes $60 worth of food for the North Seattle Foodbank!!

This will be outlaw, low-key, and non-stop skating -- so jump on your board and catch up with us, make sure to write your first/last name and $$ amount on something, along with your cash if you're handing that off while we're riding -- and if you do bring a bag of food, we'll try to keep one car designated at our base camp to store it.
Most of all we need people to come out and skate with us LATE FRIDAY NIGHT -- and through the morning!!
Followed up with traditional Saturday 8 AM breakfast at BETH's on Aurora.
No schwag pile, this is about what you can GIVE to those in need -- food banks are tapped out and need your support! Holy Martha what a weiner!!!

Well its a bit late to be changing up the setup but had to play with this idea of trying to add more shock absorption to the rolls.
"G-bomb rollsrolls"

Conceptually this seemed pretty cool, but in execution ... not so much. All the torque goes into the sharp bend from the platform. I'm pretty sure after a half mile this thing would snap.

So... the soft wedges will work for now.
Fortunately the forecast is looking a little more dry, but we're all still gearing up for a wet one.

Congrats to Gecko for his rain-ridden ride yesterday, and to Jo and her son Jack in the UK -- Jack knocked off 50 miles!!

....Seattle's story copied over from PW forum:
pavedwave longboarding :: Ultrask8 - HALLOWEINER - Friday October 30th 2009
" I just woke up from a half-day's sleep, and have been busy with trick or treaters at the door all night. So here are just a few highlights on Seattle's Ultraskate:
First off, huge thanks to Panda Dave. We both started out strong and made it through the full 24, and I couldn't have stuck it out without his support especially. Forecasts of constant rain and 50 degree overnight weather don't exactly sell the event to our friends and family. But in reality, this skate had a lot more support than a couple in the past!
So a quick thanks to this gang of hard-core support crew:
- dave
- sakae and sophie
- john stryker
- brad jackman
- sheldon lessard
- calin
- sean "Forty2"
- blake
- ariel
- DH-allan
- gunther
- kenofseattle
- jomar
- gareth
- kathy and john
- the seattle police (our good-natured 3 a.m. chats are becoming a tradition!)

This ultraskate schooled me with the revelation that: Rain is nothing -- WIND is everything. Mother nature was relentless. At seven hours into it, I was still on track to break Paul's record, maintaining a consistent 11mph+ average, pushing into gusts that seemed to be in the 20-30mph? range. It felt like I was giving it a 13-14mph effort and getting 11mph return, but I was trusting that the night would calm down the wind to a standstill. The wet pavement didn't matter at all. It was tough, but steady progress.
The turning point was when the rain kicked in, but the wind stayed the same. There were a couple places where it was exactly like pushing up a steep hill -- one push and only a foot of progress. The wind just never let up. I saw the average speed start slipping and the weather actually worsen. At around 8 hours it was time to write off the record attempt.
But what kept us charged this time to make it all through the night, was bringing the aspect of charity back into the event. The chasing of records has been fun for the last few times, but it was very satisfying to see with very little promotion, we were still able to drum up a significant amount of canned food and cash donations for the North HelpLine food bin!!
( North Helpline and Lake City Foodbank )

Another excellent event -- again thanks all.
One sell for this weekend, we all do get an extra hour of sleep for the night we lost

APRIL FOOLS ULTRASKATE
April 3rd in Seattle, and somewhere in the UK!
Final date in Seattle is either April 2 or 3, depends on a couple skaters. We'll get it sorted in the next month or so.

Re: LIVESTRONG 24-hour Ultra Skate -- Seattle and beyond
Ultraskate 9 update
Eric and Eric are up from Texas! Sunny skate session with them and Panda yesterday. They're heading down to G-Bomb Mark's then coming back up for the Ultra again tomorrow.
Subsonic's out, he got too busy moving his shop in Portland -- but we still got a small crew of hardcores going for it.
Rain?? -- yes, it will -- who cares, we're from the NW. Everything depends more on how much the headwinds persist for the first 12 hours. But we'll be there at the 8 a.m. finish no matter what, then Beth's for breakfast Sunday morning.
A wise man tell me recently...
"I try to keep in mind that the ultra isnt supposed to be easy. It would lose all of its appeal if it was. "

Subsonic Scotty will be up around Noon on Friday with his tribe and skating through the night!
So now we can say this event IS sponsored and supported -- although I would still not say it is sanctioned nor organized, definitely not organized
The HOLLAND crew has a different location now, details:

All the best to Wizzy, Pique, Jesse, Jochem and the rest of the HOLLAND Crew!! We are skating this for you. Hope your temps climb a bit and you stay warm overnight -- CIDER POWER!
Seattle kicks off about 24 hours from now. Subsonic and Roe kids will be out there in the wee night hours on bikes and boards supporting us as well. Weather forecast sounds great.
Also looking forward to Stevie and any other SoCal skaters shooting for new personal bests, and sounds like there might be some mystery skaters in some other mysterious part of this wide world clocking some miles on this fine day as well... we'll find out after the weekend!!
Skate long and skate strong!!
