Tuesday Night Skate: Moved!

A little background for all of you bay area/peninsula skaters that arn't "in the loop":

In recent days, the stanford cops have been getting really douchey. A few weeks ago, they were waiting for us on mayfeild at 7ish, with outdated flyers, basicly ready to cite anyone who stepped on a board (surprisingly, there was a guy doing heroin in the bushes, and the didn't look twice). Constantine, being the pecemaker that he is, talked to him for roughly half an hour.

The outcome of that chat was that we couldn't do mayfeild anymore, so for 3 weeks or so, we have been meeting at the usual spot (mayfeild and sonoma) and going to frenchmans fom there, and doing some of the backside hills. Pretty fun, but a lot of up hill pushing.

Today, we were halfway into our sesh, and just about to get back to mayfeild and call it a day, when a cop rolled by. We thought nothing (minimal) of it, and were set to go back down. She pulled back around, and struck up a conversation. Then, 2 mnore cops pulled up, and we started to get worried.

A good while longer, we were told to WALK back to mayfeild, and leave the area (with a police escort, mind you).

All that basicly boils down to this: we are not allowed to do mayfeild anymore. One suggested alternitive is that we move to Sharon heights, specifically Tioga. the adress for Google maps is Address: Tioga Dr, Menlo Park, CA 94025. We will be meeting at the corner of Tioga and Contenntal, 7 pm.

This is why "events" suck. The cops would never have become interested if just a few people were skating here and there at odd times. But a skateshop has to try to "grow the sport" (which of course corresponds to growing their bank account) by getting a bunch of people to show up regularly at the same time and next thing you know, the spot is closed down and the cops will be more sensitive to skaters all around the area.

There has got to be another way. And I hope you all figure it out before every damn hill in norcal is a bust.

Well hey its closer to me now. I'll come out at least once when I get back, but I have conflicting stuff on tuesday so its a one or the other deal.

And its pretty meh that the spot is completely busted, really its not that great. The hill is tiny and while it goes up higher, you have to go against a 1 way street on a busy enough road. All it was good for was sliding. Course now I have to find a new slide hill . A minor pain since palo alto is flat unless you go past alameda.

It's not that bad in small, isolated sessions. Me'n'John (bearfootboarder) have been out for a coupple late-night (10 pm or so) runs, with no hassles.

In fact, one time we had just been kicked out of the skate a few days before (i think this was a thursday or so). We had walked most of the way up the hill, and a lady-cop rolls up in a surburban esque thing. At first, we were both kinda pissed, because it was (to be) our first run. So, she pulls up, and is like "hey, do you know anything about a party up in one of the frats". We of course, being good, wholesome longboarders, did not, and she went on her way.

I'm pretty sure that the cops just cracked down on the skate because of complaints every week that we were being loud or disrupting traffic, or something like that (don't get me wrong - we were). So you could probably still go, just not during rush hour. Or Tuesdays...

How bout we all come down to los altos and skate ravensburry and concepcion. If anyone has a pickup truck we can take turns driving each other up

I have only done the former, and that was only a coupple runs...

we can do both, but i find concepcion kinda boring unless im trying to cross step my way down or something. I always feel like i'm going too slow and then attempt to push myself and eat it cuz im actually going like 20 miles an hour

lol, that happened to a friend once at stanford. Second time... get ready for it... that day! You should have seen his moms face when she came to pick us up. Not pleased, that's for sure.

Is ravensburry near conception?

Also, if we get bored (board) we can always go over to Portola Valley. I hear Alpine is amazing if you go west past Portola Rd. 3 miles of straight pavement, son.

Sorta. Well, it's like on the other side of Los Altos, by Magdalena, but it's only like a 2 minute drive.

MOFO, that is so gay. Dude i was in tahoe and gunna go but i know a great place with a crap load of big hills. its really fun. Look at Woodland School in portola valley, outside the school long hill onto a nice flat. Smooth streets too. Above that steep great hills. In the school nice areas too, hallways very slick great for slioding
