putting on a freeride in the fall
i had this genius idea yesterday, partially spawning from the Michigan 08 thread: to put on/host a freeride in my college's town (one specific park, to be exact). thing is, i don't know how or where to start. i know i'd need support from at least one of the two local skateshops, i'd need to talk to the parks and rec department (i'm employed with them so it shouldn't be too big of a deal), i'd need to arrange lodging for out-of-staters, as well as transportation, i'd need to maybe seek outside sponsorship (*cough*silverfish*cough), and i'd need to make sure the weekend i pick isn't interfering with any of the school's activities. plus, this would look good on a resume, wouldn't it? so, can anyone point me in the right direction as to where to start?

:o No, that was useless to me just tell me so I don't have to put that much effort into it.
 Yeah yeah, screw you too pal. Teach a man to fish...
 You're assholes!
You would need to front money for permits and insurance. Just hold a freeride. People will show. Things get very complicated very fast as soon as you start asking for permission to skate. If the "outlaw" freeride works out, and you have a feel for the logistics of it all, then you could evolve the event in to an officially sanctioned freeride....

so would i still work on getting sponsorships from local shops and stuff? or maybe see if one of the local shops could rent out the picnic pavilion on site?

Absolutley! I'm sure your local shops would be all over the opportunity to be involved with the skate community. Unless, they're douchebags...lol. The picnic pavillion is a great idea, and I imgine there is minimal cost involved.
