Due to Rain, the Race was pushed to June 8th.
I had my eyes on the weather network all week, come night of June 7th I had the TV on long after SNL was over to see if the predicted Thunderstorm would be moved down another day.
I woke up to a hot summer morning.
We raced to 30 - 35*C weather as the storm clouds blew right over our heads to reveal blue skies.
Slalom;
The day began with a Hybrid single lane slalom course, We had almost as much attendance as the speedboard racing with racers from Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City and Burlington, VT.
Pierre Gravel, Louis Ricard and Claude Regnier were some of the fastest racers, but Claude topped off the Timer with the best time. A full list of best times will soon be posted.
Speedboarding;
I always found Fred-D to organize the best of races, before the race began, we held a riders meeting to vote on a limited or unlimited push rule and wether we should race in heats of three or Head-to-Head. The votes were counted, we were to race head to head and could only push 3 times after a crash and no pumping was allowed. Fred-D does not use Elimination Brackets in any of his races, instead he uses a point system. Every racer must race head-to-head a maximum of 15 times and can never race the same person twice. If you come in first you get One point accorded to your name and if you come in second you get Two points, its a real jam session. The tarmac was hot and sticky, but we still had a few racers roll off course and into the hay bails. Luckily nobody got any serious injuries, but more than half of the speedboards left with Road Rash somewhere on themselves. The racing went on longer than expected under very hot weather and darker storm clouds approached, the races were cut to 10 races each and everyone was relieved in one way or another. Once we added up all the points Niko Desmarais and Fred-D had tied at 10 points each, both unbeaten all day, Simon Benoit and Cyril L. had also tied for the final podium steps. We held the finals to establish who would stand where on the podium steps
1st - Niko Desmarais
2nd - Fred Desjardins
3rd - Simon Benoit
4th - Cyril L.
As all the racers gathered to the finish line in the skatepark area, A Street skate contest began, some of the old school riders whipped out some freestyle tricks, but the young guns were the ones that shined the most in this division.
Best Trick went out to Dan Duquet from Ottawa, Ontario
After all the trophies, prizes and schwag was handed out, everybody slowly packed up all their gear into their vehicles. Once everyone had left were on there way back home, it didnt take 5 minutes until torrential rainfall began and the race course had turned into a stream.
Congratulations Fast Fred-D. for puting on such a great event with such excellent timing!
