Re: 2009 East Coast Outlaw Downhill Series
Something I've never understood is if you're doing it like golf where the least points wins... how do you take into account people not going to all of the races?
I think the easiest way to do points is by taking how many people come to the race, then giving first place that many points, and going down by one point after that.
So say 25 people race, 1st gets 25, 2nd gets 24, etc.
Whoever has the most points at the end of the series wins. Really simple and fair.

Re: 2009 East Coast Outlaw Downhill Series
well like i said
i am definitely open to input
we have 30-50mph hills here
i just need to find out what works best for everyone
still gonna try to do a mellow race sat night
but will keep the bigger race to one day-sunday
meeting up with the jersey jumpoff guys this weekend (if it doesn't rain)
i'll see what they have to say also
one of the other reasons i wanna wait to spring is to get more input and expand our database of hills

Thats what I was thinking. Only it will be super hard for everyone to get to every race so if there we say 10 races total, only take the 8 highest scores or something.

Re: 2009 East Coast Outlaw Downhill Series
im totally in for racing as many as possible. with the points, each race should be uniform so the points for the total series works. I think 1st gets 5 points, 2nd =4, 3rd = 3, 4th=2,5th=1, after that nothing would be better. I think this is better than everyone getting points at the race because if someone goes to a few races where there are a lot of people and is near the top its easier to get more points than someone who goes to races with less people and who is also near the top. hope that made sense.

Re: 2009 East Coast Outlaw Downhill Series
oh cool ray, I guess I'll be seeing you sunday then and talk to you more about it. I'll be the guy on the 9 ply evo with the tan triple 8 helmet covered in stickers.
oh and gravityrider- In about 5 minutes of looking, I found a place 10 minutes from harriman that sells and delivers hay with a 50 bale minimum.... different sizes and shapes available as well
edit; fishtale- the thing is it's much more difficult to get 4th at a race with 35 people there than getting 4th at a race with 10 people there.

Yea thats a good point too, i guess either way is going to have its cons. Anyway will be fun at least and can't wait for it to start up.

Re: 2009 East Coast Outlaw Downhill Series
yeah the overall point system is gonna be flawed at least on some level, i am not to worried about that, i'm not saying don't do it, what i am saying is that it is going to have it's pitfalls and i'm willing to accept that about it.

we should have some way of determining if the race is official because if not then it is possible for a lot of arbitrary races to arise and people amassing kind of non existent points
-
Re: 2009 East Coast Outlaw Downhill Series
to make a more fair system for the points.... (except if someone is consistently getting first)
what if let's say there are 40 riders.... the first place person gets # of riders/ 1st place finish... so 40 points... the second place would get 40/2 = 20... and so forth... and so the last person would still get 1 point
the only unfair advantage is between the first place person and the second place (double.. so to make it a little more fair, a first place finish will be something like (40/1.5) which wouldn't leave such a huge point gap)
^this will also make more competition... because the total points will be closer
so in a race of forty people
1st place = 30 points
2nd place = 20 points
3rd place = 13.3 points
4th place = 10 points
5th place = 8 points
6th place = 6.6 points
7th place = 5.7 points
....
38th place = 1.1 points
39th place = 1.0 point
40th place = 1 point
this way smaller races are worth smaller amounts of points.
a race with 8 riders:
1st place = 6 points
2nd place = 4 points
3rd place = 2.6 points
4th place = 2 points
5th place = 1.6
6th place = 1.3
7th place = 1.1
8th place = 1
and yeah the decimals suck, but i feel as if this is the fairest way to incorporate the number of riders to the position a person got.

I would assume that there will be a set list of races for the season before the 1st race even happens, or I would hope that there are at least races planned a month or more in advance. It would keep it official and be fun and it wouldnt limit races devolping after the start of the season so long as there is ample set up time I think.

name the series
appoint officials
take votes

but we need to make sure it is uniform
1 key person/from each race gets a vote and will be the contact person per that race
we need to exchange phone #s and contact info
i'm not sure who i'm even talking to at this moment-lol
what r we thinking?

So, who's heading this up? It sounds like it's still in the pothead fantasy stage...
-
Re: 2009 East Coast Outlaw Downhill Series
I'd like to head it up... but theres a decent chance I won't be on the east coast next summer so there are people who would be better suited (couch- Anthony- cough). Though I would be more than glad to help out with anything from keeping a second set of points to helping decide some rules, etc.
All we really need is one person to sanction the race as official part of the series and keeps track of the points. The rest is up to the organizer of the individual race. The race organizers have to plan the actual logistics of the race, get the word out, and talk to the organizer of the series to make it legitimate.
-
Re: 2009 East Coast Outlaw Downhill Series
Pat where are you going for the summer? Is it skate related?
In terms of officials, I only know a handful of the people posting in this forum and trust pretty much all of them I think or at least have no reason not to. I know a few of us on here have had success organizing outlaws in the past and are capable of taking care of the small responsibility that is being the head of this series. I guess let's see who is willing to be the sanctioning body or whatever of the series and vote on it? Democracy eh? Maybe first we should determine what exactly this overseeing executive position entails...I suppose it would just be a person to keep a calendar of the events and keep track of the overall points for every racer and prizes for the over all series (although I think the prizes still need to be discussed in terms of whether a cash purse for the overall winners should be amassed like they did in cali). Am I missing anything? God it's like we're doing a mock congress exercise in government class...

Oh yeah I guess I'm saying I'll do it...it doesn't really seem like that much work and no matter what this will really build our scene.

Re: 2009 East Coast Outlaw Downhill Series
ok so i guess everyone who organizes a race in the series is part of a group of officials headed up by anthony? sounds good to me.
as of now, we only have one race in the series scheduled, mine. chances are not all of the proposed races will happen, so i dont think there will be an issue of too many races. i imagine this series will be pretty small this year, and grow as time goes on.

you got my vote-lol
i think we should handle each indiv race as if it were an individual race, then report the points in. each race can be a cash and/or prized event
