Re: 2009 East Coast Outlaw Downhill Series
Dudes chill...the point of the series is to build the scene on the east coast US. The west coast and the canadians have #### like this all the time and have so many people skating together and all and we got little to nothing especially with the demise of GSI and Top Challenge. This IS about banding together, some people are just getting caught up in logistics. That's why I've been saying the freeriding is probably the most important aspect of all this. The schwag given away is just frosting on the cake, a cherry on top. The points are just bragging rights amongst friends. Who care who is the "best downhiller" on the east coast when who the hell are we anyway. None of us have names and we aren't looking to make names (although I would like some sponsors to take care of my travel costs) we just want to ride because STAND UP RULES! Keep that #### in mind man. I know that everyone talking #### is cool in actuality, except maybe speedfiend, but I've never met him in person because he hasn't been at the events I've gone to so I shouldn't really say anything at all.
Mike, good advice with insurance cards. Always a good idea when on a skate trip. Mine stays in my wallet which I only use on trips because a money clip is easy to lose (I'm a baller with a money clip isn't that silly?)

Re: 2009 East Coast Outlaw Downhill Series
"Dudes chill..."
lol-let's just have a good time
"Harr. PA outlaw - May sometime"
may 10th
"Another thing that I will be printing out, is a waiver"
yes please do
i have a lawyer that can look over it
"as far as the course goes. i think a low bust factor is much more important than the difficulty. residential courses, that is a course with even one house on it, will NOT work for an outlaw. ever. even if you think the neighborhood is on board, it only takes one sour apple to get the entire outlaw called off by the police. now which is worse, going to a race that isnt quite hard enough, or going to a race and not being able to skate at all, and potentially being fined/arrested?"
just met with our borough planner today about getting a road closed here
hillbillies do it - so there is a chance
we will have a back-up hill
spokan outlaw got busted 3 times-we just went somewhere else
"nick and i have limited experience planning races, but at least we have some. in our experiences, no one wanted to have an am race. the first sultans of speed had an "Am" category, and one person signed up. the course isnt really that hard or dangerous, but its fun, and relatively secluded. other people who are planning their races should look for a course with similar characteristics."
i have run contests (non-race) for 20+ years
we will have an am contest, day before-not part of the series, no one has to come, but people are contacting me already about coming, plus we have a local interest
edit: and of course, a race doesnt have to be in the series to happen.
yep

Well said bro. I'm steppin off at this point (didn't I say that before?). Ray is much more the politician than I am, he started it on our end and I know he'll do a great job of handling it. I've met some of you guys the past few weeks and hopefully you went home saying we're a cool group. I know I can be an @$$hole but for the most part I'm a good guy and I'm passionate about the sport of skateboarding and I don't limit that to any one discipline. What I want to see here is what is good for the sport and in my opinion that's races which are more inclusive and fun. Enough said. Good luck with this. I'm sure it'll be cool and i look forward tp coming out to play when I can.

Good points anthony. A waiver is a good idea, could someone with more experience in that area draft something general up that we can then apply to each of our races. one thing about residential roads is that they may be possible to get closed unofficially through a neighborhood organization.... keep looking into that ray.
Another thing I will be doing with my race is setting up a paypal account for entry fees at a slightly discounted cost for people registering in advance. This makes it easier for me to get haybales, helps canadians not worry about having to get american money, and gives me an idea of the turnout before the day of the race.

if the road is closed, its not an outlaw.
as pointless as the points are, we could also look in to what fast freddie does and include mcgf for points as well, just to make the series even longer.

Re: 2009 East Coast Outlaw Downhill Series
This sounds really cool, What do you think is a good skill level to be entering these races? I go 40 regularly, but have never raced because I don't have anyone else by me who downhills. Are leathers gonna be mandatory, or just full pads?

Re: 2009 East Coast Outlaw Downhill Series
you will definitely be fine. small outlaws like these are a great way to get into racing. pad requirements for races will ultimately be up to the people in charge of each individual race, but in the case of Sultans of Speed, only a helmet is required, pads, leathers and a full face are strongly recommended.

Cool, I have everything but leathers, so I'll definitely try to make it out to as many races as I can.

Re: 2009 East Coast Outlaw Downhill Series
This is making my head grumble.
Good luck guys.
IMO. The races of the series should only be very VERY loosely linked. Let people do what they want. As far as I am concerned, Anthony is mature enough to make approvals and disapprovals of tentative races. Let him do it. We don't all have to yap yap yap about what races count and what races don't. All that matters is safety, fun, and consistency (keep track of the points).

Re: 2009 East Coast Outlaw Downhill Series
I was thinking, if anyone does a gsi/dr no style race with four runs to everyone and points run offs, make sure to run everyone off so that in the end everyone gets a place so it can be figured into the overall deal. For overall points I'm thinking that the gsi system works easy enough where first place gets 200 points plus 10 times the number of racers. It goes down from there. Here is a copy pasted version from their site:
Place Points Place Points
1st 200 + 10 x # or riders 18th 75 + 10 x # of riders
2nd 175 + 10 x # of riders 19th 70 + 10 x # of riders
3rd 155 + 10 x # of riders 20th 65 + 10 x # of riders
4th 145 + 10 x # of riders 21st 60 + 10 x # of riders
5th 140 + 10 x # of riders 22nd 55 + 10x # of riders
6th 135 + 10 x # of riders 23rd 50 + 10 x # of riders
7th 130 + 10 x # of riders 24th 45 + 10 x # of riders
8th 125 + 10 x # of riders 25th 40 + 10 x # of riders
9th 120 + 10 x # of riders 26th 35 + 10 x # of riders
10th 115 + 10 x # of riders 27th 30 + 10 x # of riders
11th 110 + 10 x # of riders 28th 25 + 10 x # of riders
12th 105 + 10 x # of riders 29th 20 + 10 x # of riders
13th 100 + 10 x # of riders 30th 15 + 10 x # of riders
14th 95 + 10 x # of riders 31st 10 + 10 x # or riders
15th 90 + 10 x # of riders 32nd 5 + 10 x # of riders
16th 85 + 10 x # of riders 33+ 0 + 10 x # of riders
17th 80 + 10 x # of riders DNF 10 x # of riders
The IGSA points system involves decimals and stuff and I'm not going to be setting up any intense excel spread sheet or anything because I use a mac and am an audio guy and screw that stuff.

Re: 2009 East Coast Outlaw Downhill Series
Its actually an incredibly simple points system....if you get first in a race with 20 people you get 400 points total (200 + {10 x 20} = 400) and so on.
In terms of entry fees for races...we should decide collectively whether there is prize money involved just because it'd be weird to have one race with entry fees and the rest without. And if we do decide on entry fees it needs to be standardized how it is doled out (1st gets 50% 2nd gets 30% 3rd gets 20% or something of that nature). I mean if we have sponsors on with a race then there will be schwag as well and then how is that given out? I just don't think it's fair to let each individual race decide whether there is an entry fee if the race is a part of the series. Pat how necessary are haybales on your course? Let me know specifics of your race in a pm or something when you get some time. That goes for each person looking to organize an event too now that I think of it. I'll send all the info to the other people who are organizing the events so that they can each see what the others are doing and so those people can have a say in the whole although not that much since the local will know more than the non local.
