Default 2009 East Coast Outlaw Downhill Series

Who wants to pick a month to organize a race in their area? January has Sultans of Speed. I don't know who is at school or what not or how long we should wait or try to do what when. I think each race should have an entry fee of 5 or 10 bucks. That money either goes to the podium for that race or gets put into a pot for the winner of the series. Schwag is obviously going to get given away. Also I think race format should be determined by the organizers based on the race course.

I think my race will be in mid May on a hill in DC with freeriding after dark through the mansions of northwest DC where all the diplomats and politicians live. I'll take responsibility for keeping track of points for the series if no one else wants to.

Sounds good. I have hills that close in the winter so I might be able to do one early spring, but don't take my word for that.

New York will take April. Race format will depend on the location, i have a few spots in mind and spots that are more likely to get busted would use elimination format to keep things going faster, while more chill spots can use a points format. All the spots are within 2 hours of NYC (think close to CT) and will have a lot of freeriding afterwards. Race will probably be in the morning (10 am practice -11 am racing) so that we can skate more after the racing.

What does everyone think of a race on a road that has very little runout? We would probably only run the bottom half of the road bc its a bit too fast from teh top for an outlaw- it would go straight- right hand sweeper- left hand sweeping hairpin- hard right hand hairpin- finish line-steepish 30 foot straight- left hand 90 into a 30 foot flat before hitting an intersection. Top speeds mid 40s from where we'd begin (50+ from the top).
The course itself is pretty gnar so I don't think it would be much of a problem bc it would really be an advanced-riders only type deal, and the road is an access road so we don't really need to worry about cars. Entry fee could be upped a bit to provide some hay bales for the two hairpins.

edit: mt. greylock would be ill. I'm riding it, closed road or not. Nick- contact me whenever you plan to ride it (via sf or I think fifi has my #)

Remember guys, a snow bank is pretty nice to crash into compared to going off the road or into a guardrail

I took a bad fall on 5/24/2008 at Mt. Baker, went off the road and fell down the side of the mountain. I went into a coma, badly broke my pelvis, lacerated my liver and almost died on the mountain AND later in the hospital. The rehabilitation therapists had to teach me how to do everything again...everything.

I survived that mountain because of my helmet...WEAR ONE and send your family to the hospital, not the morgue.

kicking around this idea a while ago, glad to see its starting up.

i know there has been talk of a CT race. maybe that could follow the PA one?

also great hills in NC, blue ridge outlaw anyone?
