in holland we have something called hemelvaartsdag, which doesn't translate into english as heavenlyfartday, but ascencionday( forgive me if i spelled it wrongly, or if my grams are wack). i believe germany has it aswell but i forgot the name. this day is on thursday the 20th of may.
anyway, i have posted a topic on a dutch site( http://www.thq.nl/longboard/ ), and have got a lot of positive replies on wether or not we should meet upon that day. my proposition was to meet at a place called 'het hulsbeek', which location is very near a town called oldenzaal. oldenzaal is a small town situatiated in the middle- east of our gracefull country. it is quite near the german border.
the place has a snakerun, downhill and 2 pools at the lower end. the pools aren't really something to be very excited about but they're fun. the snake is great and fast, if a bit short. the down hill is short but very smooth, excellent for training your slides. so take you're boards, gloves and maybe some additional protection (groupies will show up). also take food, beverages(alcoholical preverebly) and maybe a sleepingbag.
if there are any german longskaters reading this, post it on some of your forums.
i hope to see yall down here in the netherlands, if you might have any questions, i'll be checking this thread regulary.
I am posting on behalf of one Deus_Horribilus (my bro for anyone wondering) and he would like to know if this event is near Koln at all, or about how far.
Cheers dudes and have fun! Wish I could be there myself!
it's quite a drive. estimated distance is 200 kliometres. looked it up on the web. that is actually ok. i thought it would be farther. if you were to have a longboard event in cologne i would actually be tempted to come, now that i know the distance. so if you do let me know. i guess if you don't have a car, you'd be less tempted.
well tell that horrible god of yours that he's very welcome to come up here. and if he needs directions, he can just post, or look up oldenzaal on a map.
It looks like I won't be able to make it, Oldenzaal/Gronau is a bit too far and costly by train for me at the moment, and I haven't got a bahncard yet. Plus, I have to be back in Bonn for lectures first thing friday. Sorry guys.
I wouldn't know, I haven't skated up that way. I mainly cruise the paths around Bonn. I have to say though, there are way too many cobblestoned streets/paths there, can't ride five minutes without having to pick up the board and walk to the next street. Bites.
