Hello everyone.
I'm going to be an exchange student to France for the upcoming year.
I'm headed to Lille, France.
I was wondering if anybody knows the status of borading (legal? illegal? accepted?) and if there are any good hills...
I'm scheduled to ship out late late august.

Any advice / tips?

Hi,
I'm french rider, I live at 500km from Lille.
The first hills are at 500 or 700km from Lille.
I think you will discover any descent interessant so not hill.

The longboard are accepted, there are not precise's rules for the practise of longboard, every policemen decide if you can or not...

In August there are downhill's competitions.

The city of Lille is flat but very nice for cruising.
Near the city, you have the Ardennes which is full of hills and sweet roads.

Lille is very close to Paris (1 hour by high-speed train from town center to town center), and you just have to drive a few minutes to enjoy the belgian beer !

The north of France is not very sunshiny, but people are very nice and cheerful. I hope you will like your year in the north.

Je suis ici deupis Aout, et c'est genial, la France. C'est vrai que il pleur beacoup (comme un vache qui pisse, je pense que on dit?) mais quand j'ai le temps et le meteo avec moi, j'aime bien a fais du ped slalom et cruising.
Je vais t'appelle si je suis jamais en Paris.

hey!

i'm a spanish and i'm also going to be an exchange student next year! I'm going to kortrijk, belgium, which happens to be NEXT TO Lilli. I don't know the real distance right now, but they seem to be fairly close...

I think that area hasn't got very good weather and it is FLAT, but we can always find something to shred! I'll be staying there about 6 months, starting late august too...

Kortrijk isn't right there, but close enough to sync up for a beer and a skate every now and again!
But late august... I don't think I'll be there then... If I am, totally down.

One resource you might like is riderz.net I'm sure they can give you all the info you need, Lille is not in a particularly hilly part of France but there are some hills. If you get the chance check out this reservoir: lille - Google Maps I see it everytime I speed by to Bruxelles...

Have fun in Lille, Paris is not too far away by TGV, so you will have great times! There are freerides in France too. Some up in the pas de Calais, more down south in the Alps.
