That's a cool idea but a pretty tall order. Not only would I be giving away all my precious Arcane secrets but it would be Sooo time consuming. As it is right now with my regular job, family, dog rescue, board building and all I'm hard pressed to find time just to relax! I'm also so slammed with orders right now that it's difficult just getting time to take my usual teaser and thread pics. Not that I'm complaining at all but remember, this is just a one man operation.
The good news is that we may be finally turning a corner with the website. Things will work more fluid and effective than trying to get orders made through PMs and emails. We're making it so that if you'll be able to pick the base color paint and stripe color/pattern. So if you want a Chico with a blue base color and black triple stripe pattern you'll just click a few boxes and be done. Custom stuff will still be available through the sites email.
Once the site is finally up I'll continue to update this thread and it will still be for news, specials, possible new boards and general discussion. I'll do my best to still add some customer pics as well. I hope to have the site up sometime in August.

The site's not solid right now and input is always welcome.
Alright, so what do you guys want to see from the Arcane site? Throw out some advise and opinions like BUboarder said and we'll see what happens.

Re: Arcane Boards Info and Updates
The color boxes are a very very good idea. Make it simple and try to stay away from using any type of Flash so that it loads quickly.
Other than that, your work pretty much sells itself already.

Re: Arcane Boards Info and Updates
i'd say definitely don't try to overdo it on the color scheme of the site. silverfish is a good example of a simple design that works well readability-wise. MHS is another great one. i definitely prefer a dark on white design because then everything shows up.
make sure you have at least two shots of every board: bottom and side, both set-up i'd say. a nose-on concave shot would be good too
and agreed on staying away from flash. it's icky

Re: Arcane Boards Info and Updates
I agree with you guys, I have a disdain for flash as well. My guy was saying something about maybe a rotating 360 shot of the boards, that shouldn't require flash right? I'm not sure if he can get it done but that sounds like a cool idea.

Re: Arcane Boards Info and Updates
I would have to agree with not making the site in flash. Flash is good for presenting art/music portfolios, but for what you're going for, I would recommend steering away from it. To produce a smooth 360 degree board shot, it'll have to be made in Flash. DHTML could mimic it but may not be as fluid.
Thanks for the update on my boards. Hopefully, I can get them by the end of next week. I want to head out to Rocklin to the Tactis Sk8 Shop and get all the hardware for them.

wow... i cant believe people are actually bagging flash ... if you have a web designer that know his stuff, you can do some amazing things in flash that you cant do in other programs!
the best looking sites are a good percentage of the time made in flash, and i dont thin you should steer away from it simply because it might not be the easiest to make, you want your site to be the essence of what your boards are, and over simplification of it will not allure too many new comers. and you can make some nice pizzaz in flash. ^_^ just my 2 cents.

Re: Arcane Boards Info and Updates
Put a picture of the board in question (on the ordering page)
Put various boxes next to it, signifying stripes, patterns, etc.
Heres the cool part:
Make it so when you click a box, it changes the picture to a picture of the pattern that you chose on that board.
Maybe put a drop down box for colors of the base coat, stripes and/or patterns.
thizz is most def not what it is.

While a compelling idea, the number of boards that Austin would have to make to have a visual representation of each style/color/stripe/etc probably makes this a no-go.

I agree with your point. However, for a website that's primary objective is displaying the product and get orders, the most secure way would not incorporate a site based on flash. If Austin is going for a visually stunning webpage, he could go with a Flash site to display the product and a nonflash secure site for purchasing.

Re: Arcane Boards Info and Updates
My opinion on Flash is based on the fact that it will completely LAG slow computers like mine, both hardware-wise and internet-wise, not that it will be overkill.

Re: Arcane Boards Info and Updates
As a Web developer, my opinion on Flash varies depending on the site in question and what you want to accomplish. I don't generally like sites that are done entirely in Flash, but a nice animated header can be a great way to showcase a product. And as long as you offer up alternative content to users who don't have or want Flash, I don't see a problem.

Re: Arcane Boards Info and Updates
Personally I enjoy site that use flash, but in all honesty I just don't think that it matches up with the Arcane style all that much. The real beauty of his boards is the fact that they aren't slopped up in super-complex or flashy graphics. Instead, the beauty lies in their simplicity. Not to say that there isn't a lot of work put into them, because anyone who reads this thread or owns one of his boards (which I can't say I do, but I check them out on here all the time and daydream lol) knows that he is a great craftsmen.
Personally I think that flash is just too...flashy. It's not necessary, and it has a tendency to just make a site over-slopped and confusing. Granted if done right that might not be the case, but I'd rather see the site as simple, elegant and functional. This style is a much better representation of the kick-ass Arcane style.
But that's just my observation

Re: Arcane Boards Info and Updates
For a short time I won't be able to take any new orders. Those people that I've been talking to already can still place yours. Coming up here soon I'll be out of town for a couple weeks, when I get back I'll start taking orders again then.
Promised pics will be up as soon as I can get the chance. I've honestly been so busy that I just haven't had the time. I'll also try to get to all my PMs here in a bit. Thanks guys
