You live in Rhode Island, you lucky ass. Check out the Soda Factory.
PM 'Scratch' (Rus) on the forums, he'll hook you up and you won't even have to wait for shipping
Suggestion:
Clutch Deeznuts, 10 ply, maybe 11 ply.
Randal R-II 42* all around with Venom barrels 93A boardside, 90A roadside
Wheels. S9 Race Formulas, Lime Bigzigs... Anything you prefer. Maybe some round-lipped 82A Race Formulas if you like to drift.

Thanks!
I've been lurking and I came across the Soda factory page and was really digging their work. I'm planning on shooting a PM their way to see what might work.

You have good taste in components.
Edit: yeah I just looked again and a Dervish complete is 168 and a Dervish board only is like 184...something is F***ed up!
That's something they'll have to fix it is misleading.
They (sundaeskates) can set you up with an Earthwing deck Randall 180's and wheels for under $200.00 Randall and Earthwing are quality manufacturers.

I've actually found a few places that do that. It's very strange. Also places that you can buy all the parts seperately for far cheaper than the complete (inc risers, hardware, bearings etc.)
Oh come on gravity, you used to be cool...

Re: The Official "Hi, I'm New!" Thread
Hey, guys! I'm VERY new to the longboarding community. As far as skating background, I have little experience. I picked up skating mid-September because I wanted to get around campus faster (I'm a college student). So I just grabbed my older brother's skateboard and brought it along with me to campus one day. Needless to say, I failed horribly haha. I rode that for about a month and improved, but if you ask me, skateboards aren't meant for campus transportation. Too many cracks, holes, etc. I thought I'd give longboarding a try.
I bought my first and current board off WhiskeyMilitia.com. For those of you who aren't familiar with the website, they sell snow/skate gear at heavily discounted prices. The catch is that each product only stays on the site for a certain period of time. It was an extremely impulsive buy, but I got a Gold Coast Golden Sands Nomad for $80. Here it is:
GOLDEN SANDS - Completes - Categories
The board has been good to me. I've taken it out in rain, which I know you shouldn't do, and it still rides well. I ride with very loose trucks, and whenever my friends give it a try, they're amazed at how I can even stay on it. I want change, though. I don't know if I want a new board completely or just upgrades to my current board. One thing I don't like about my board is its height off the ground. It should also be noted that I haven't performed any maintenance on my board since I bought it (October), so maybe that's why I'm not satisfied with it right now. Everything on it is stock. Honestly, I looked up the Century trucks that are on my board, and it's as though they don't exist! I know very little about components of a longboard, but I'm more than willing to do the research. All I need is a little input from you guys btw, I really like the design/structure of the Loaded Dervish and the Sayshun Mania decks.

Dervish/Mania - What're you looking to do with it, cruise, carve, downhill? The main difference between those two is flex.. The Mania is stiff, the Dervish has lots of flex. Flex is a bad characteristic for speed. The Dervish is a drop-through as well, meaning it'll be easier to push (lower).
I can go into more detail but some searching around the forums will tell you just as much as I can :P

Whats up guys. My name is Josh and I live in the Pompano/Ft. Lauderdale area. Just started getting into skating recently. As a kid I was always into bmx but I haven't rode in almost 10 years. A buddy of mine wanted to get me into skating and now I'm hooked. I wouldn't say that I have a longboard right now but it's definitely not a regular board either. I have a throwback Alva fishtail with longboard trucks that we just found and sector 9 wheels. Its a fun setup but it's not even close to stable. I'm wanting to get into some downhill but I'm definitely gonna have to change my board. Anyway, nice to be here and hope to see some of you around and maybe ride sometime.

Yeah, I'm happy my first board isn't an expensive one. Honestly, I'm mostly going to be using my board around campus, but I'd still like to have some fun with it. I enjoy carving quite a bit, and I'd really like to get better at it. I don't know if you can equate going down a parking garage as downhill, but I loved the thrill. So I think I can conclude that I'd like an all-around board. But if there's one aspect I want more, it's speed.

Re: The Official "Hi, I'm New!" Thread
Hey I'm new here, been reading a lot lately but haven't found what I'm looking for. I've never longboarded and don't know anyone with one but I'm interested in starting. I'm planning on making my own deck and buying wheels and trucks.

Re: The Official "Hi, I'm New!" Thread
Hey, New to the forums here and first thing I have to say is thank you. Great forums, I have defiently taken in a lot from you guys.
I ride in Portland, OR. Been riding for a couple of years now.
I am currently riding a Sector 9 Path Finder, with Randel 150, and Abec 11 Strickers, sadly I do not know the durameter, I bought them before I knew anything about wheels.
I love the flex of the board, it really pushes back on hard carves making leading into the next carve wonderfull.
However I have no nose on my board, so nose manualing is difficult, anyone have any pointers on how to do it with a no nose board? I have tried finding discussions about my board, but there seem to be few.

Re: The Official "Hi, I'm New!" Thread
Hey everyone, im Jason and im from the Hershey, Pennsylvania area. I started riding a few months ago and while checking out parts, i found a lot of reviews on this site. I used to ride a shortboard when i was younger, but never really got good at tricks or anything and decided cruising is more my style and decided to pick up a longboard.
There arent any areas i can really find for good cruising spots around here in PA, so if anyone else if from this area i'd be interested to find out where you ride.
My board is a Sector 9 Shipsterns and so far its just completely stock, how i bought it from the Billabong store. Im looking to do some upgrades and i think my first step may be getting some seismic trucks. If you guys have any good recommendations for upgrades, i'd be glad to hear them.

Hi everyone my name is Bill from Vancouver BC, Canada, excellent site and forums. I have spent the last few hours searching and reading alot of the advice/reviews/how-too's ect....I am new to longboarding and I am looking to buy my first board soon, the reviews and advice/knowledge I have gotten from here is helping me learn what I want to get. I am an ex-boarder (when i was in my teens and earlier, first board was a cal240) but I am now going to pick it up again while I am still mobile (I am 43).

Re: The Official "Hi, I'm New!" Thread
Hi everyone, I am a completely new to skating and I just picked up a board on a spur of the moment type thing. Well actually I've been watching longboarding vids forever and finally pulled the trigger and bought one in a clearance sale from a skate shop near me that closed down.
Its an earthwing crewzer with paris 180s and retro freeriders. So far, I really love it! But I also really suck! I can't seem to go very fast and there's not many hills near me (Toronto, Canada). Would my weight have anything to do with it (just under 100lbs)? Also I can't seem to get the hang of pumping or sliding. During slide attempts I can't seem to get enough speed or enough power to slide my board out.
Anyways, hoping to get some tips from this board. And I'll continue practicing!

Sup all I just realized I hadn't posted here yet.
I've been boardin for about a year now, and I'm looking to get a lil more serious w/it this summer. Im working on building my own deck right now, and so far so good. Im skating out of upstate NY, and right now about 5 of my friends are fans of longboarding so we all like to roll out together from time to time. I hope to learn more w/boarding here and you all seem like a knowledgeable bunch so so far so good.

Re: The Official "Hi, I'm New!" Thread
hey, Caboose checking in. I started longboarding a couple months ago, living in Northern BC, Canada where, when i got my first longboard, the Madrid, the roads were too snowy to ride so a couple friends and i went to a gym (like a high school gym, but not in a high school) and practiced up, me being the only longboarder there i felt a little trapped among a bunch of normal skateboarders. but then the snow melted, and now i'm riding around quite a bit, almost every day. not much events in my area, but longboarding is slowly growing in my town so i have a few people to go cruising with every once in a while, but mostly i go alone.

Not much going on in your area eh? Vancouver BC is a sick place to longboard! Go skate Cyprus mountain or Paskapoo. Catch up with Coast Longboarding. longboarding is booming in your area and there are tons of people who longboard there, and lots more would love to shred the hills there, including me. Some of the best boards are made there. Rayne,Landyachtz and others. Also look up Killdozer on this forum he's in your neighborhood and can help you out.
