my first skateboard was a little anodized aluminum green board with like 3" wide trucks and red-orange wheels. cost me $20 buck used.
my first longboard ride was a s9 luke.
i'll be getting a new board soon.. can't decide which one tho.
I want something that carves good and is maneuverable....this is what i am looking into, any comments or experiences are appreciated:
-loaded ceviche
-dregs alpine
-earth wing super charger
-gravity carve
-(maybe later) S9 off the wall or sand wedge ..
[edit" nevermind, i went ahead with a Dregs 44 alphault concave classic with charger trucks and the S9 off the wall too ]

Re: The Official "Hi, I'm New!" Thread
Hey all,
Kinda new to the longboarding scene. Started in April this year but Ive been street skating for about 7 years now. Found I LOVE the freedom of longboarding after someone gave me a 40" pintail setup. Very basic but I love the freedom to just ride however I want. No rules, just make your own rhythm and flow. Longboarding to me is just all about entertaining yourself and what you feel is "cool". Really into it for the surfing feel as well love carving as well as bombing hills depending on my mood. I cant really explain it but longboarding is just the epitome of freedom to me. Buying my first "legit" setup next weekend as a downhill / carving build (sector 9 Bert Scrible, Orangatang In Heats, Bones swiss ceramics, Gullwing 10" chargers) so needless to say im pretty damn excited. Really want to learn to slide so my next setup after this will be a more slider friendly setup after I get some gloves. Ummm I guess some basic info... My name is Matt, Im 21 years young as of Tuesday and I live in Eastern, PA and go to school on the Eastern shore of MD. MMmM if anyone here is close to either of those locations and just wants anyone to cruise with PM me.

Re: The Official "Hi, I'm New!" Thread
Well, I guess I might as well ...
Howdy everybody! I'm a relatively new skater from Michigan, started in May of this year (not counting the one time years and years ago that I rode my cousin's longboard, thus sparking the ever-growing want/need for my own) and I found that I absolutely love it. Recently hurt myself downhilling, so I am sorta slowing the pace a bit and trying to learn as much as I can as quickly as possible!
I'm riding an Original Terrapin 34, and I mostly just cruise around the neighborhood and down some little hills. Except for that one time, mentioned above.
But yeah! Just thought I'd put myself out there. Really looking forward to getting another board, I love my baby but I'm looking to widen my experience, ya know? (I'm kinda eyeballing the Original Custom 35 and Loaded Vanguard ...) If anyone has any suggestions for a flatland cruiser/small hill carver like myself I would love to hear them.
But this has already become too long for most of you to consider worth reading! So here is where I cut it off.
Life and love,
Grimesface

Yo!
I'm 17 and new to longboarding. I tried it a some months ago and I loved how smooth it felt. I was on another forum, (solecollector) and they had a thread about longboarding and they had cool videos of it and they a lot of people talking about Loaded (they also talked about this site!). So last week on Wednesday, I was on youtube and I just kept watching longboard video after longboard video after longboard video. By the end of the night, I was so inspired to buy one. So I went back to the longboarding thread on solecollector forums and they had links to where to buy longboards. (I was already convinced/set on buying a Loaded Dervish due to all its praise). Checked my bank account and I barley had enough to buy the Dervish but I just said f*ck it! And here I am, waiting for my Dervish, which is expected to be here next Wednesday via Daddies Board Shop.

My name's Dustin and I just started long boarding a few weeks ago. I live in Albuquerque, NM. Picked up a S9 Haleiwa with Paris 180's, S9 74mm 78a nineballs, and bones super reds. I am now totally hooked! Hopefully soon I'll be brave enough to go down some of the ditches around here.

Re: The Official "Hi, I'm New!" Thread
Here's my intro - just joining the fray here guys.
Started skating since 1974, worked at Skateboard City in Campbell, CA NoCal in 1975-1978 ish IIRC... been a while. Winchester Skate Park was NEW when I started to do other things and moved on. I lived in NorCal Saratoga area and we routinely blasted Pepper Lane and the area. I used to ride down to West Valley College from up on hill where I lived on Glen Una Drive. I'm sure the riding is still stellar around there.
Fast forward 30+ years... Now live in NorVermont and recently stopped in at the Boarding House in Hyannis, MA to check things out. Whoa, gotta get back in the groove. Stopped by RidnHigh and Talent. Both good shops, support local business, right. I will have to get downtown to Burlington, VT to demo some of the boards at RidnHigh. Kewl shop.
Addiction started in 1975 spending my summers down at the grandparents house in Dana Point - San Clemente, CA. Skated Carlsbad and Anahiem Skatepark in '76. Scored an Infinity fiberglass 27" with Cadillac wheels as my first board. Parents still live there now
Quiver since then...
- Infinity Fiberglass, Cadillacs
- Logan Earth Ski, Road Riders 4s, Tracker Mids
- Jay Adams Design Z-Flex, Santa Cruz OJ IIs, Tracker Mids (still own this)
Recent purchase
- Sector 9 Waimea 38"
I just started back up carving turns and need to stretch more, go figure. Feels pretty b!tchen to be back on a board and will try to get out more, tonight might be nice!
Oh, the z-flex still works well.

More photos and my original Summer 1975 Skateboarder rag with Gregg Weaver on the cover. Uber kewl, still own this too.
