I'm somewhat new. I've been stalking threads and posting a bit, but hey. I'm from Richmond, VA. I started riding on a S9 Bomb Hills w/ Never Summer wheels and Bones Reds.
Just bought a Never Summer Heist w/ Paris 180's and it arrives tomorrow!
We have an abandoned 4 lane highway outside of Richmond which is generally where we skate as well as a ghost town office park with plenty of abandoned parking lots and more brand new abandoned pavement.
Dang, sounds like you live near some sweet skate spots. Welcome.

Bomb hills, not exams.
I'm kinda new.
I live in Norway, Voss to be more exact. I learned to skate when i was 7 years old but I had a bad crash in a vert ramp when i was 10 and so I quited short boarding(I'm 16 now btw). I started to ride longboard's one year ago just so I could have something to do while waiting for the ski season to start. And now I'm hooked, I just sold my first longboard ( a s9 sandwedge 38" with sidewinders) because it was to slow and not capable of bombing annything. Now I'm waiting for my new Rayne Hustler /w Bear grizzly trucks and otang 4 prez, plus some venom bushings. wich i hope will be more versatile.
Where I skate : Pretty much everywhere. Voss is a DH / freeride paradise. But some places are infested by potholes and rough asphalt . I also skate a place called Vikafjellet from time to time. it's a 30 min drive from my house and it's an awesome mountain road with rellativly new asphalt. And it's Loong!
Ive been skating for 5 years or so now, longboarding that whole time just not as much. never really got into the gear and specs and dims and science of it all, just had fun doing it... i skate more than i longboard mostly because i dont have people to ride with. i love riding the trails at fort stevens when i can, or up and down the beach...
but i joined to learn some more about longboards and different products since i know a lot about shortboards and everything to do with them, plus i recently started working at a surf/skate shop called cleanline in seaside/ cannon beach oregon. (stop in if your in the area so i can be in the skate room more often! we dont have enough skate customers...) and i want to be able to know more about the longboards that are in there so i can help the customers better... mostly we just have sectors, arbors, landyachtz and a couple others i forgot the names of. the first longboard i got was an arbor about 5 or so years ago. with randals and i still love it.
Hello my name is Mike. I hail from Wallingford CT and just started Longboarding about 2 weeks ago. It has been an enjoyable experience so far and this site has been very helpful. My first board is a Sector 9 Mundaka that I enjoy quite a bit. I'm not very good at bombing hills/carving so that it is the stuff that I am working on currently. I did not Skateboard previously so everything is very new to me

Heyoooooo I'm also from Richmond, VA! My friends and I skate a lot around University of Richmond, and near Collegiate. For the dude who's also from RVA, what part do you live in? I've got a loaded Vanny, 83a In Heats, Randal 180s, reds etc. . I love carving, sliding, dancing, and hills (not too big cuz you know, vanny and all) especially when theres a bunch of guys skating with you. anyway i've been around for a while lurking the forums but I might as well introduce myself here

I'm from all over Richmond I guess... I work in the West End and live in the Fan, but we do a lot of DH & Sliding so we skate out in Innsbrook, 288... lot of good neighborhoods to hit in the West End too, send me a PM and I'll let you know next time we're going out
I too am rather new. Up until a couple of weeks ago I hadn't been on a skateboard since I was in my teens. I opted to build rather than buy, mostly because I knew that I could but also to limit my investment in case I later decided taking up longboarding was a waste of my time. It's not, I'm pretty happy with it. Now I just gotta figure out how to stop...
Thats an awesome home made deck there SoloRider.
Great shape!
Thanks. I'm in the process of screwing up build number two right now. That's helping me to make sure that build number three comes out nice and build four won't be far behind that.
I shortboarded a couple of years and stopped approx 10 years ago. Three or four weeks ago I ordered me an original apex 34 with s8 trucks and lime big zigs... Today I wanted only have a short ride to my favourite indian take away. Well it ended up in a two hour session without any food . But now I've got the hang of the these turny bastards. It's an absolutely faboulus snowboardy and carvy feeling... And I'm pretty stoked right now, after I first thougt I made the wrong purchase. Because they are really sketchy when you're used to shortboards... But now I love em... I do skate and live in Zurich, Switzerland by the way...
Hey I'm Chuck. I have been skateboarding on and off since 1998. I am somewhat new to the Fish. I used to skate at the olliehouse in Temecula, Ca until they shut it down in 2002. I currently live in Paradise, Ca but grew up in Canyon Lake, Ca. It has alot of big hills there. For shortboards I love minipipes and longboarding I like to carve, roam aimlessly and downhill. My board right now is a Insane Asylum Psycho w/ Randal RII, Reds and 70mm 80a Insane Asylum wheels. Longboarding is pretty much my way to relax. Lets get out and ride!!!
i've been riding since about 95' shortboarded around messing myself up trying to get the tricks. turns out i'm way too tall for that, i quit that and dabbled in cycling for several years then in the summer of 02 my buddy and i found a pair of nash mini's at goodwill we replaced the loose ball bearings with some sealed ones and we were in business.
as soon as we started riding mini's around i knew that this would be a passion of mine. I built my next board on november 14 of 2003 and as soon as it was dry enough to skate i went out. turns out a 24" board is not nearly long enough to bomb hills on. Bloodied i returned to the woodshop to craft a board nearly 50" long from solid oak.
i originally joined silverfish around 2004 as SidewalkSurfer, when the website had just over a few thousand members. I cut my teeth on lamination and building theory on the board building forums. sometime in 05-06 this place exploded with activity and i left... too many kids, impatient not ready to learn, bragging about their 60mph runs in kansas or something stupid like that.
anyway since that first board in 2003 i have produced over 120 custom boards for my friends and as a shop teacher with a school northern MN.
recently i have been taking my hobby a bit more seriously and moving on to more exotic materials in my building endeavors. i'm sure you'll be able to read all about it very soon...
Edit: current ride is : 60" custom cruiser, Seismic 180mm 45/45's, Rush Ceramic Bearings, 1st gen Seismic speed vent 85mm (the softer ones)
the board rides like something half it's size.
Cheers
-Martin
Im pretty new to the 'fish as far as posting goes but ive reading the forums and boarding for the last two years. i started with an arbor pintail (which gained some flex two months ago thanks to my moms minivan) my newest board is the FSM which is by far the sickest board my feet have touched and everyone should go buy one right now! i live and ride in Binghamton NY and ive never seen a fellow longboarder (besides my brother who just bought a NS heist)
Hi there, Im Ryan, I am 14 years old. Started shortboarding when I was about 8, and that lasted 2 years until I realized that most of the shortys were tools, and I didn't have that image. Then I dedicated my time to surfing and lax/football. About a year ago, I tried longboarding and loved it. Not only do I like longboarding, I like the people who longboard, which is awesome. I am still kind of n00biesh so any help will be appreciated. Thanks!
Quailman here, I used to be sammynestico on here but decided it was time for a change from my high school alias. I've grown quite a bit and learned a lot from the 'fish but haven't contributed much but am looking to get more involved on here and just longboard more in general.
Currently I'm living in Rhode Island, so if you're from the area I'm always looking for more people to skate with!
