    Exclamation First board please help!!

So I've really wanted to start longboarding for a couple months now, and I currently have the money. I'm 5'10" and about 145 lbs. I would use it for transportation and carving down hills occasionally. Probably not any steep slopes but I'll cross that bridge when i come to it. I'm thinking around 40 inches or so. I snowboard, and I'm pretty good, so being on a board isn't new to me.

-What shape would be best for transportation and carving?

    -What size trucks?

-Should i attempt to make it myself?

    please help!

36 - 44 inch deck...sector9, earthwing, gravity, LBL, flexdeck, bustin, never summer, comet, arbor

180mm trucks...randal, paris, indy, bear, crail, holey, tracker, seismic

you could make it yourself, but its your first board, so i would just buy one

I probably wouldnt attempt to make it yourself....it will cost you much more money in the long run...with that said I would look at some smaller/independent companies, you can often find a great board at a good price and its something that is unique, that you wont run into on every street corner.

For firsties I recomend a sector 9. Then eventually if you like sector 9 you can stay with them (like me) or you can move on to a higher end brand. But if it's just for transportation Try and get one of the lighter weight boards. and make shure there is a lot of foot space.
You could just go to Zumiez. They're in pretty much every mall in the US. They have tons of longboards.

ok, so what's your fav Sec9, what do you do with it and if it was a complete, did you change out the wheels/trucks/etc. ? I'm thinking I might add a Sec9 to my quiver.
    1. for new groms that want to ride with me or try a longboard. Better the sec9 than the higher end stuff.
    2. because so many like to bash the Sec9
    3. it seems most folks start on them (I didn't) and I want the full experience.

thanks in advance for your input

Wait another week or so, amigo. I've got a couple of things in the works that'll blow people away (for the price and performance).

I have a Sector Nine Wave. I didn't swap anything out, since I just use it to commute. 65mm and Gullwing Alpines. My downhill and carving boards use Paris 180s and 70mm wheels. But the Wave is good for slow speeds and quick controlled turns.

    thanks -
Something else I've noticed on the fish is that if S9's aren't pissed on outright, it seems the general consensus is the completes tend to come with less than desirable components. So I was already contemplating feeling out the S9 riders in here and maybe just getting a deck and going with recommending fittings. With MHS Mark about to bust out some S9's, I know they'll be rip-ready as soon as I unbox... MINE.

I gotta give my grom-crew a heads up tonight. They're always asking now about price and where I got mine. Hopefully they've got a good final report card coming out and put the squeeze on the parents.
